When in Penang, do check out The Alley Cafe along Stewart Lane. This little cafe brews good coffee and serves really good cronuts and churros.
Don’t be fooled by their signage “Kedai Baharu Keat Seang” and motorcycles in front of it. We were baffled at first thinking that we were hollaned by Waze which directed us to this corner old shop.
There are more tables at the back. The rattan chair looks is no stranger as I used to lounge on it during my childhood. We used to have it at our home.
Until the cat scratch the hell out of it.
Like many cafe, you order and pay first, grab a number and your order will be sent to you.
They have these cold brew which they call it “battery water”. Very nice packaging and a must have during the scorching hot weather in Penang.

The Alley sells a variety of cakes, churros and cronuts. As I have heard so much about cronuts but never get the chance to taste one before, we might as well have it here. We ordered and shared a set of Nutella Cronut and Churros with Salted Caramel sauce dip.
Their Churros is by far the best Churros I’ve ever had! Crispy golden brown on the outside and delicious soft inside. To describe it better, it’s like eating potato wedges but more awesome. Recommended best to dip it in The Alley’s salted caramel sauce.
The Cronut on the other hand is great as well. The Cronut was coated with a generous amount of Nutella and there are walnuts, peanuts, some dried seeds and oreo crumbs.
This doesn’t disappoint and pretty much exceed our expectations. The next time I come to Penang, I’m coming back again for the battery water, churros and cronut 🙂
