THE CLUB is the new lobby lounge in Riverside Majestic Hotel.  Formerly, it was a shoe store. THE CLUB operates 16 hours a day! From 9.00am till 1.00am the next day!

The Club's operating hours

Currently, The Club is having the Happy Hour Deal which is from 12pm till 9pm daily. During the Happy Hour, guests are entitled to the Buy 1 FREE 1 offer on all house pouring brands inclusive of beer, house wines and cocktails. *like*

What’s best is that they are operating through lunch and the Happy Hour is applicable during LUNCH HOUR!! Now, I have a new spot for lunch with nice, comfy and great ambiance spot for a quick bite of sandwich or cakes or pastries with cocktail coffee. It’s like a 5 Stars Starbucks, but better because they serve alcohol and that shouts,  “COCKTAILS!” *double like*

This is what it looks like from the main entrance. The entire lounge can accommodate approximately 50 people for a function like a cocktail reception. 50 is just comfortably alright, more than that would be too crowded.

The Club three entrances

The lobby is still under construction, otherwise, you can just walk in from there. For now there are two entrances to The Club; one from the shopping mall and the other is from outside.

The Bar

This is the bar. It can accommodate approximately 5-7 people. Not a very long bar, but enough for those who just want to grab a drink and chat with the bartender.

Enough introduction on The Club, to know more about it is to experience it yourself. Now, I want to show off my experience at The Club. *plays harp*

This is the fehmes Sarawak Laksa from Golden Arch. This is the one Sixthseal like a lot. Gotta agree with him lah. The laksa soup is riched with coconut milk!

Pullman Kuching's Grand Opening Gala Dinner Programme & Menu

Colosseum was decorated with handmade or tailor-made props to match the theme of the night, China Shanghai Paris. In other words, the theme was Black and Red. I wore a simple black dress with a red  clinch belt around my waist to match the theme. Simple yet elegant? *perasan*

Upon registration, Frankie got me the Pullman Kuching’s logo sticker and sticked it visibly on my arm. Every guests of the gala dinner has it on them.

As mentioned earlier, I was at the dinner with ahlost and JF. We met lotsa familiar faces at the dinner;  Jeffrey Sia, Alex Lau (body combat&pump-mate), Fahriee, Cyril, Angel Pep and BF, the Aviva, friends, etc…

Ahlost’s hair looks great that night. She got her hair washed from the hair saloon shop in Sekama for only RM18. FML! Should have joined her for the hair wash. Piff…

Story of the hair:

I went to Cutting Edge, The Spring for a hair wash (RM25) and to get a glamour hair blow. The fella who washed my hair (I’m sure he’s younger than me) is very talkative. Ask east ask west (obviously trying to dig info), taking what seems like forever to wash my hair. Then, he asked what type of hair blow I want. Told him just blow it straight down with a curve into my face. Guess what he did, he made curls. Not only that, the curls didn’t even last throughout the night. Piff.. Talk about having a glamour hairdo. MEHHH… Not surprising that he asked for a colleague (who blow curls so much nicer) to give him a hand to do the other side of my hair. The curls he “tried” to make looks like sh*t!! Long story cut short, I have two different waves of curls on both side of my face. FML!

The CM and VVIPs  were seated in a long horizontal table facing the stage. The best seats in the house. Get to have the best views on the stage, no interference while watching the first ever performance by Chinatown Shanghai in Malaysia.

The kuay tiaw cooking method reminds me of the Ying Yang kailan (2 in 1 cooking style on one dish), where the kailan leaves is cut into very thin slices and then deep friend, and the stalks is stir fried. This kuay tiaw, I think it’s both boiled and deep fried.

Rib-eye Bulgogi

Tender & sweet

The rib-eye aka beef steak from the beef rib is well done and pretty chewy.  It would be better if it is medium well done, so that the meat would be more tender and juicy. *perfecto* However, it’s not easy to please everyone in a banquet as everyone has their own preference on how well done they like their steak. So, no hiam-ing for this case.

Dinner was scheduled to end at approximately 10.45pm followed by fireworks, but dessert was not out yet. Ahlost, JF, Jeffrey and I stayed back for dessert, while the rest went off to capture some fireworks pichas. Good thing we stayed back for dessert as it was more worth missing out on the fireworks.

Bird nest is one of the luxurious food on earth as it is among the most expensive animal products eaten by human. It is believed that bird nest help make your body, skin and face looks younger. On the other hand, ginseng is believed to relieve stress and gives good health and stamina to your body.

There were interval during dinner for cheque presentation Interhill Group and witnessed by YAB Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud to PERYATIM Kuching Education and Basic Living Fund for 152 orphans, PETIPUN Education Awareness Programme for Penan Communities, and DBKU Plant-A-Tree Programme.

After the cheque presentation, there was a special cake cutting ceremony specially arranged for YAB Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud for his 29th Anniversary as Chief Minister of Sarawak.

Wanted to continue posting on my Taiwan trip, but decided to show of my yesterday’s breakfast :3

I went to Foody Goody Cafe, Tabuan Stutong Commercial Centre for breakfast yesterday. Never tried the laksa there because I always berlaksa at Fat Cat Cafe, when I’m in that area.

Foody Goody Cafe is located in the same “arch” as Kuching Specialist Hospital. View map. It is very easy to spot the coffeeshop. Same row as the hospital, with long red signboard.

Kopi-O @ RM0.90

The Kopi-O (black coffee) is harum (nice fragrance). :3~~ Yea, still can find 90 cents kopi-o in Kuching.

Among all the foody goody stalls, one of the most happening one is the laksa stall.

Laksa @ RM4.00

According to @Myremi from Mum-Mum, the laksa stall is like a factory! It is true that they have at least 8 person operating the stall: 2 person prepare the ingredients, 1 cook, 5 servers. Under her sharp observation, she shared, “i timed it once. 3 bowls = 5 min. and they run out of food by 10-10:30 am. open 7 am”. I didn’t need to wait for more than 10 minutes for my order, even when it’s on a Sunday morning (where business is extra good).

So many prawnies!

The laksa (normal) comes with at least 8 prawns! That’s quite a lot for an ordinary bowl of laksa.

Big vs Small

Bro ordered BIG laksa. The portion of the BIG laksa is the same as the normal ones, just size of the prawn is different.

The laksa comes with lime and spicy sambal – not to my liking because it has a weird after taste =x

Well, the laksa itself is pretty spicy already, don’t need to add the sambal to make it spicier.

4 sticks of Yew Char Kueh @ RM2.00 (50 cents each)

There is this Kuih stall just outside the coffeeshop. They sell freshly made yew char kueh. Who could resist it? We ordered four sticks of yew char kueh for three persons (big eaters maa).

The yew char kueh goes supremely well with the laksa soup. You guys should give it a try. I tak tipu (no cheat) one.  This can fill up your tank if you think the laksa noodle/beehoon is too little for you.

After finishing our laksa, our tummy felt a little dissatisfied as there are still plenty of space in it. =X

Han Chi Peng & Yew Char Kueh

So, we went to the kuih stall for more yew char kueh, han chi peng (something like cinnamon roll), yew char kueh with the sweet filling, and lek tau suan (mung bean soup aka sticky split green bean dessert). All for RM4.90 only!

This time round, I tried something different instead of the handmade noodles. I ordered laksa because the aroma of the laksa soup haunted my mind! It says, “eat me! eat me!”

Apart from Laksa, they do sell nasi lemak, curry rice and many more. Multi-food stall.

They serve this special laksa sambal condiment and lime with spoon and chopsticks before serving me laksa.

This is my first time tasting such laksa condiment. It’s not the typical spicy sambal with belacan in it. It is very very different from those we normally had.

fried onions

It is actually fried onions with spicy sauce. Tastes great with lime juice and even better when mixed in the laksa.

The laksa is like any ordinary laksa. The taste is slightly mild BUT when mixed with the special condiment,  the spicyness kicks in and it tasted real good. That fried onions thingy is addictive!

Soup of the day

The soup is very creamy and because it is such a big bowl (refer to the picha below), I filled half my tank with it. The soup tastes yummy with more pepper.

Penne All Arrabbiata

The tube pasta with spicy tomato sauce topped with cheese and nothing else. I really like this plate of pasta as it is spicy and a tinge of sweet and sour from the tomato sauce. The pasta is well done. Not too soft – overcooked and vice versa. This is my favourite among the 3 sets.

Set B

Spaghetti Bolognaise

The Spaghetti Bolognaise is superb as well. The sauce is creamy and the spaghetti is well done. I like the sauce though. Really have the authentic Italian taste and the Chef uses the whole tomato for the sauce rather than using tomato paste (perhaps he added a bit of the paste).

Pizza Di Funghi E Prosciutto (6")

The Pizza Di Funghi E Prosciutto consists of tomato sauce base, turkey ham, mushroom, and uber lots of mozzarella cheese! Definitely love the pizzas here.  You get to taste the real deal here, my friend. Satisfy your Italian Pizza crave here. It beats all other pizza outlets in town by taste, price (RM23 for a large pizza), quality and satisfaction. The crust is thin and crispy, the toppings rich with cheese, just how I like my pizza to be.

Unlike *referring to some Pizza chain restaurant* where they serve pizza with thick crust and pathetic portion of toppings and service so terrible that I don’t even bother to dine in it again. I’m sure many are full from eating the crust itself. Might as well buy roti (bread) and toast with bolognaise sauce and cheese on top.

The size of the personal pizza is very big and it is highly recommended that you share with your friends and family. Order a few different sets and share it among yourselves. That way, you get to sample 3 different Italian dishes in one meal. If you add RM6 more into the set, you will get one portion of Insalata de Cesare (Caesar Salad).

I like the hospitality given by Silhouette management. They specially prepared these table settings for us so we can have a proper meal together. Supposedly, the tables they have inside are all round tables and it would be pretty inconvenient for us to have a meal together with such a large number of hungry people.

I’m glad that everyone was enjoying themselves with the pizza and pasta here, except for my uncle who does not enjoy Italian food. *dang* Good thing Silhouette serves something else apart from just Pizza and Pasta. *phew*

After feasting and temporarily imagining ourselves in Italy feasting on Italian cuisine, we had 2 rounds of Bingo  (brought from home) before heading back to my place.

Overall, it was a memorable, fun and bloatful Christmas lunch party with my family.

Carvery Restaurant is located in Pending and it’s not very far from the town. Carvery is well known for its meaty lunch and dinner buffet. You get to taste a wide variety of meat right from the skewers!

The buffet consists of a wide range of salad, saute veggies and meat, soup of the day and non-stop serving of 14 baked, grilled and roasted meat and seafood (may be refilled).

The salad bar looks very inviting. We all need to maintain a balanced diet, veggies is also a MUST to feast on. Apart from that, who would say “No” to those crispy fresh imported lettuces? Plus, there are imported chicken and turkey ham. Yum Yum!

Before serving all the meat to every table, they served us the two sauces to go with the meat first. There are the black pepper sauce and brown sauce.

The meat buffet consists of chicken, lamb, beef and sausages cooked in many ways; grilled, roasted, and saute. They are brought to the tables still on the skewers and we can decide the cut size of the meat

We all get small slices of meat. If you think that the waitress is ngiawchee (stingy) for serving us such a small piece of meat, you have mistaken her for it. They serve us in tiny pieces because there are approximately 14 kinds of  meat and seafood for us to try!

If they serve us in big pieces, by the time we reach the 4th or 5th piece, we are full already. Then, we won’t be able to try everything they have prepared. If you accumulate all the small pieces of meat in one plate, you’ll get a mountain of meat! Don’t believe me, see it for yourself and add them all up on a plate:

The Life Cafe is a Taiwanese cuisine eatery in Kuching. To date, it has two outlets in Kuching;. The first one in the City centre which is located in an old shophouse beside a Chinese temple (just behind Star Cineplex). The new outlet is Brighton Square, Jalan Song.

1. Now, I can enjoy a bowl of yummilicious spicy noodle without worrying about parking issue. Although there are times I had to park behind someone’s car because I am lazy to walk from FTMS.

I’ve been to the Life Cafe, Brighton Square three times. If it’s not for the crowd, I would go more often. Heehee..

It’s always so packed every time I dine in (even after 9.30pm). There was once I had to wait for about 10 minutes to get a seat! So, yeah, it’s that packed. As Kuchingkia as possible (AKAP), people tend to “pick” seats. In this case, just sit when there’s available seats. Plus, AKAP, people don’t just order, eat, pay the bill and leave. The typical us who are AKAP, we order, eat, drink, chit chat, make sure the seats are warm enough before we get the bill and leave.

Because we are just AKAP, instead of waiting for us to decide what to eat, the waitress would leave the menu and order form on the table. The waiter would come over to collect the order form once we filled it in.

Jasmine Green Tea @ RM3.50

The Jasmine Green Tea I had was uber sweet! Sadly, I finished it within few sip (had to control from drinking too much before my noodle arrive). Honestly, the drinks are expensive. Why? It’s such a small glass for the price of RM3.50 which is obviously just tea and sugar syrup with ice. =X

My main focus in Life Cafe is none other than the Spicy Noodle (Ma Lak Mien).

It’s not easy to find a good bowl of delicious and spicy (which is spicy enough for me) ma lak mien in Kuching. The Life Cafe so far has the up-to-expectation spicy noodle.

Da Lak - big spicy

The Life Spicy Noodle consist of minced pork with sliced mushroom, spicy sauce, topped with spring onions and fried onions. The noodle has 3 degree of spiciness to choose from: Xiao Lak (Little spicy); Zhong Lak (Medium spicy) and Da Lak (Big spicy). Alternatively, there’s also Chao Lak (Blasting Extra spicy). The bigger the spiciness, the spicier it is.

From the two pichas, Da Lak and Chao Lak ma lak mien, you can see the differences. The Chao Lak Mien is redder than the Da Lak Mien. As Chao as it is, it is damn blasting!

Memang best! The cafe is well air conditioned, but I still sweat from the ma lak mien. See those kishable lips. *LAMAO*

If hot and spicy is not your kind of taste, you can try their other specialties range of noodles.

Life Cafe Dry Noodle @ RM6.90

This is the non-spicy version of ma lak mien. It tasted the same as the ma lak mien, just not spicy at all. Bro had this and he described it as, “just like kolo mee but with different toppings and noodle”. *LAMAO*

The Life Dry Noodle consist of minced pork with sliced mushrooms, shredded cucumber and carrots topped with spring onions and fried onions. I’m not sure if anyone realised or able to taste it, the noodle is mixed with vinegar. So, I guess that’s how Bro describe the dry noodle is like “kolomee”.

In my three visits, we were served with three different soup. AhA! which I can conclude that this must be the soup of the day *Briing Briing* One great thing I like about the soup is SEAWEED.

Their noodles are handmade and it’s very delicious. Like the meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee here!

Better stop talking so much about me mee and brag more on their other dishes. Apart from noodles, the Life Cafe  do serve rice. There are varieties of menu with rice – which I haven’t tried yet because every visit I only order ma lak mien. They serve vegetarian food as well.

There are also some other side orders dishes to go with your fulfilling meal. One of my favourite from the menu is the fried dumplings.

The dumplings come in six and served with some pickles and their special sauce (grinded ginger with black vinegar). I still prefer sliced vinegar with black vinegar =X Some prefer chopped garlic with light soya sauce.

There are three types of vinegar to choose from; Pork, Cabbage, or combination of Pork and Leek.

So, yea, now you know the surface of the buffet – price, venue and validity. Now, I’d like to share the tummyfacts (C) of the buffet. My Ramadhan experience at BCCK.

Food galore

Upon entering, we were greeted by this huge buffet table filled with lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of food! Oh, what great joy~

There is a buffet table at every side and corner of the hall. There’s something for you to chew wherever you turn your head! *licks upper lip*

In case eating is boring, there are 2 projectors on the wall to entertain you since there’s no TV in there. LOL!! Well, these projectors are not there to just entertain you but also informative while you chew. There are quotes on the Ramadhan projected throughout the night.

There are a wide range of food! From the greens of salad and veggies to the whites of chicken, fish and squids to the reds of lamb and beef and etc.. In short, just fast the whole day and feed your tank here. Oh yes, from local delicacies up to the western and eastern cuisines! All lined up on the table waiting for you to dig in.

The menu changes everyday. This means, everyday there are different dishes! So, if you dine here everyday, you will never get bored of the food. But wait! I haven’t touch on the ultimate part of the buffet. Here’s some to show how good the food at the buffet can be:

Boiled mussels

The time I was dining there, there were various serving style for mussels – boiled, grilled and fried. In the second teaser post, I showed off the mussels and prawns picha. Wait till you see the GRILLED MUSSELS TOPPED WITH CHEESE!

And if you think that’s all they do best with the mussels, you’re not quite there yet. They even have fried chilli mussels to spice up our tastebud.

Some of the food served are pretty hot and spiceh. It’s spiciness is up to my liking as I love spicy food. Huuuhaaa!! Bring it on babeh~! Those who are not spicy food lover, fret not, there are other more food than what your tummy can take.

The roasted lamb is superb! The meat is so tender and juicy. Oh…Succulent… Dang.. How I wish I could bring the whole lamb home. I can have Lamb sandwich for breakfast and Lamb Shawarma for lunch and and lamb skewers as snacks!

There are like a hundred and one (perhaps more) food to pick from! Get to taste the wonders of various cuisine in one hall – International style buffet. There are just too many pichas of the food, so, I compiled them into a slide:

The dessert was simply extrafulfilling! As if all the food was not enough, we just can’t stop stuffing more food into our mouth. Simply must try every single one they have. LOL!!

To ease the food down your throat, there are of course free flow of ice water.

BUT, that’s not all. There are a range of cold sweet drinks to choose from. From the popular Air Bandung to the thirst quenching Lime Juice to cooling Sugar Cane to the local favourite Cincau C and not my favourite drink Soya Bean. I can’t promise that you’ll get the drinks you see from here as they change everyday. That way, you are rest assured that food and drinks are fresh maaaa..

After all the feasting and the amount of food we savoured, it’s time for a cup of good brewed coffee for better digestion.

Luckily, Pazuzu and Stephen were making their way to Kuching Festival after their foot massage. Sat by the balloon stall till the end of the night. Foosi and friends dropped by and joined us. ahlost, TV and ting joined us after their BOL session.

Phew.. I completed the outstanding of July for Project 365. What’s the date today? OMG!! August 14th!! Grr…  2 weeks outstanding for Project 365 for August. Perhaps this weekend then.

The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf in Green Heigths Mall is no longer in operation? Saw the place covered up, and the signage’s gone. Hmmmmmmmmmmm…

Wanted to surprise mum with cupcakes instead of cake. Cupcake’s more cute and practical and less fattening and storage free. If we get a cake, we need to find a place for the cake and etc..

After class last night, I rushed to Green Heights Mall to get some cupcakes from the “Cupcake” store, BUT it was closed! And it was just 9:30 pm only =/ So, ended up going home with donuts.

The price is a ringgit plus more than a bowl of Kolo Mee. But this is not Kolo Mee, it’s handmade noodles. Plus, they don’t use Cha Sio, they served it with three layers pork and minced mushroom meat. Yum Yum!!

A relative informed me that the stir-fry stall located inside the coffeeshop has one of the best Fried Taugeh Kueh Tiaw in town. Going to try that on my next visit.

The actual name of the place is Pin Ji Cafe, a coffeeshop located beside Alliance Bank, opposite AirAsia office. Chicken Rice and More is just a name Darrel randomly came up as the place is also located just opposite Pizza and More. And also because Bryan cooks more than just Steamed Chicken Rice.

I’m impressed with the is juiciness and tenderness of the chicken and on top of that,  I likey the spring onions and fried garlic toppings. Chicken rice must have condiments to go with it. The chillies I mean. You gotta love the chillies! Very rich and spicy~ Gimme gimme more~

Chicken Chop Valentine @ RM7.50

As I described this to ahlost via SMS, “Butterish which reminds me of jagung when i eat the veggie. The meat is tender and juicy. Cooked at the right level, not too cook yet not bloody. The potatoes are too little. If eat with rice would be more full. So, should give more potatoes. Tastewise is yummy. Has a pinch of herbs taste. Oh, crispy skin.“

Apart from chicken, they have veggies as well. There are Ipoh style Taugeh (bean sprouts) @ RM2.00 and Garlic Soya Veggie @ RM2.50.

So far, I’ve tried the Chicken Rice, Chicken Chop, Heritage Curry – vegetarian, and Baby Kailan. They are all superb. Although it’s a bit far of a walking distance for me, but I don’t mind going all the way there for yummylicious lunch.

So, if anyone is in town and don’t know where to go for lunch, just head over to Pin Ji cafe. And if you’re going there, give me a buzz, I might join you for lunch.
