On our way, we saw this florist stall. There were lots of roses, so Yien and I stopped by and bought Rose a Rose (RM1.50 SO CHEAP!). Even though Rose said, “no need” or “nevermind”, but I think lah, she must be shouting with joy hoping for a bouquet of roses. Bahahahahahahhaa…

LSS = Leung Sui Suet (Iced Liang Teh or Iced cool tea) Am starting a trend here to name the drink LSS because I can’t pronounced it well, most of the time it sounded like “Leung Shui Shit” T________T

There’s this LSS stall in Midvalley’s lower ground floor, just outside Koong Woh Tong.

The name of the stall is so cute! MOU TAK DING! LOL!! Mou tak ding means Unbeatable in Cantonese. It’s actually, Petaling Street Air Mata Kucing – Mou Tak Ding! LOL.. meaning their air mata kucing is UNBEATABLE!

FIFA World Cup

The FIFA World Cup fever is back! Now, hosted in South Africa. Even though the game is in South Africa, we can  save $$$ and time from traveling all the way to South Africa, just by relaxing with a bottle of beer or cocktail in hand watching the matches through the TV or big projector screen. The power of technology, huh.

The potato salad was delicious. Soft and sweet. There’s a funny story about eating the potato salad. As it was cocktail food, don’t expect holding a spoon on one hand and the other to fetch food. Hence, it was kind of awkward to eat the salad with hand. So, we used the lettuce as a spoon to scoop the potatoes. lol.. Half way eating, I ate the “spoon”.

The cheesecake was served on fruit parfait. Excellent combination and easy to eat. Just wallop the whole thing into our mouth.

The Fusion Cafe

The Fusion Cafe is a new cafe in town and currently my favourite place for my dosage of 3 layer pork cravings. Years back, the cafe was known as Red Tea House and years later, they changed management to some stir fry cafe and today,  it is The Fusion Cafe. The Fusion Cafe is located in Jalan Song Thian Cheok, just somewhere near MAS building.

Parking is convenient during the evening. During the day, to get a parking slot in the city centre will depend on your luck, unless you park in Taman Kereta or in Tun Jugah’s basement parking.

The Fusion Cafe operates 14 hours daily (10am – 12 midnight) and closes on every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the Month.

The Fusion Cafe is a nice place to chill out,  gossiping chit chatting, catching up with friends, etc. The place is air-conditioned and complimented with ceiling fans, whilst the doors are always open. Hence, the place is never too hot nor too cold, just cooling.

The wall is painted soft pink and decorated with wall stickers. Very simple yet unique and creative. I like the one with the girl walking with the dog. (Can I bring home the poodle?) hehehe…

Well, I was at The Fusion Cafe with Kevin, Jess and  Albert (aka AhBird) for dinner. Thanks to Sharon for the great treat We enjoyed the food and drinks lots.

I’m impressed with their menu. There are varieties of drinks to choose from. From milk tea (recipe brought down from Red Tea House) to fruit juice  to iced tea  to beer. And of course,  they have their very own created special fruit punch:

Paradise is #69 in the menu. It is a mixture of Lemon juice, soda and fresh strawberries. It is a refreshing and cooling drink, with a tinge of taste.

THE CLUB is the new lobby lounge in Riverside Majestic Hotel.  Formerly, it was a shoe store. THE CLUB operates 16 hours a day! From 9.00am till 1.00am the next day!

Currently, The Club is having the Happy Hour Deal which is from 12pm till 9pm daily. During the Happy Hour, guests are entitled to the Buy 1 FREE 1 offer on all house pouring brands inclusive of beer, house wines and cocktails. *like*

What’s best is that they are operating through lunch and the Happy Hour is applicable during LUNCH HOUR!! Now, I have a new spot for lunch with nice, comfy and great ambiance spot for a quick bite of sandwich or cakes or pastries with cocktail coffee. It’s like a 5 Stars Starbucks, but better because they serve alcohol and that shouts,  “COCKTAILS!” *double like*

This is what it looks like from the main entrance. The entire lounge can accommodate approximately 50 people for a function like a cocktail reception. 50 is just comfortably alright, more than that would be too crowded.

The lobby is still under construction, otherwise, you can just walk in from there. For now there are two entrances to The Club; one from the shopping mall and the other is from outside.

The Bar

This is the bar. It can accommodate approximately 5-7 people. Not a very long bar, but enough for those who just want to grab a drink and chat with the bartender.

For Mothers Day, we went to Orchid Garden Coffee House, Grand Margherita Hotel (formerly known as Holiday Inn) for dinner. There were several reasons why we chose GMH in the end.

They have one of the best promotions offered on Mother’s Day – Mum eats for FREE and FREE wine. So meaning, instead of paying RM79++ per pax, we are paying RM68.14 (3 x RM79 x 15%/4) per pax. A great saving of RM22.71 per pax and total savings of RM90.84!

P/s: The dinner buffet is RM79 and subject to 10% service charge + 5% government tax = RM90.84.

#2 Complimentary FREE wine (choice of Red or White)

Each diner is served with a glass of Complimentary house wine (except Muslims). They only serve the wine upon request. I saw few tables don’t take wine and requested the Captain for more wine. He was reluctant at first telling us the reasons that they serve based on per head. Told him that since other tables are not drinking, we help them drink. And again, the Captain regrettably apologize that it couldn’t be done.

They are smart to place dessert plates near the salad bar. So, the max you can fit on the plate is 3 Oysters, unless you stack them up, WHICH I don’t advice you to do so lah.

Yesterday, princess_Yen mentioned on Twitter that Oysters are GOOD for men in the ahem aspect (improves men’s sexual health). A real eye opener lah.. So guys, how true is this? LOL! share share lah..

Juice it, Slurp it

So, how do you eat raw oysters?

Some prefer to taste raw oysters without any seasonings, while others prefer seasonings like lemon juice, cocktail sauce, tobasco sauce, etc sauce. The usual one is lemon juice. Personally, I love it with a squeeze of lemon juice.

Using a fork, work it under the juicy oyster to detach it from the shell.

Place the oyster shell at the bottom of your lips and give it a big suck like how you take a deep breath but with your mouth (duh!) and slurp the oyster into your mouth.

Last but not least, don’t just swallow it. Give it a chew, else how would you  taste the hamness (oysterness).

Bro didn’t like the roasted duck as it has a mild smokey taste in it. Surprisingly, the duck is smoked before roasting (I think).

As a Chinese who drinks soup at every dinner since she was born, I can cook Ginseng soup (sedaps lagi enak) with one eye closed.

Tropical Fruits: Papaya, Honey Dew, Watermelon

The fruits are very sweet *thumbs up*. They have fresh pineapples as well, but I dislike pineapples. Every time I eat fresh pineapples, without fail, my tongue get cuts and sometimes, I get ulcers from it.

A sweet mango pudding topped with fruit parfait and perhaps a small slice of strawberry on top would be lovely. But what they have here is some pandan pudding burnt sugar syrup on top (which made it bitter) and topped with almond flakes.

LOL! Remember my Banana Chocolate Cake? This is so opposite of it! The chocolate cake is decorated with BANANA CRACKERS! What a combination of sweet chocolate and salty, crispy banana cracker.

Chocolate Mousse

This is the best among all the cakes and puddings. The chocolate mousse is very delicious! But I don’t like the pink deco (DIY on sushi rice).

They have ice-cream too. There were two flavours of ice-cream that night; strawberry and peppermint. Got lotsa toppings to go with the ice-cream too; almond flakes, chocolate syrup, berry syrup, chocolate rice, colorful thingy, etc..

Overall, the dinner buffet is okay lah. I enjoyed the seafood and meat (YUMYUM) minus the desserts (no offence). In fact, I was looking forward to Oyster shooters!! Well, I hope they serve that again in future

The deep-fried fish in batter served with fries, fresh greens and tartar sauce is not bad. The fish itself is crispy on the outside, tender and smooth on the inside. I like it with lots of lemon juice *licks lips*

We went to Life Cafe, Brighton Square for our late dinner/supper.

Earth Hour at Life Cafe

When we arrived, it was very romantic inside the Life Cafe. Seems like the Life Cafe is also participating in the Earth Hour “Shut it Down”. They switched off the lights and only the lantern lights were switched on. The lantern lights were really dim and we can barely read a single letter from the menu. Had to use our mobile phone’s torch light to read the menu and check on the order form.

As it was a Wednesday (ladies night at Silhouette), we enjoyed our dinner with free house pouring of the night, Gin. There were two types of mixture: Gin Tonic or Gin with Sprite.

I ordered Gin with sprite as my first glass and it tasted somewhat terrible to me. Then, I tried marther’s Gin tonic which tasted much much much better. My seconds and onwards was Gin tonic.

The spaghetti is cooked with olive oil and garlic. I normally toss the spaghetti with lots and lots of Tabasco sauce to give that extra kick *slurps*

The pizza funghi e prosciutto consists of turkey ham, mushrooms, tomato and mozzarella cheese. We love this pizza the most among all they have in Silhouette. Also, I recommend this pizza for you to try!

Pizza A’matriciana consists of beef bacon, onions, chilli, tomato and mozzarella cheese. This pizza is slightly spicy. I liked it but not bro as he don’t take spicy food.

After our dinner, we continued drinking and hee hee haa haa… Then, we went home. After an hour later, I was back in Silhouette again for second round, and this time with Evey. Then, Ehren dropped by and joined us.

White Wine

Ladies night falls on every Wednesday of the week at Silhouette. Ladies get free flow of drinks (either cocktail, mixture or wine – depending on the drink of the night) from 5 till late. For the past two Wednesdays, we were at Silhouette and twice we get free flow of white wine (slow drinking as you drink by sip). Thus, Benben called it Silhou-White instead of Silhouette.

Triple beds

Mum, bro and I shared a room. So, we got the triple room for three. The bed is super comfy! Almost didn’t want to get out of it when bro and I were watching TV while waiting for the rest to get ready.

The bathroom damn sexy lorh. See the shadow? That’s where the shower is. Plus, they have this 400ml “Lux” shower gel attached with the shower. So, you can lather yourself up with more shower gel. hakhakhak…

After we checked-in to our respective rooms, we went out for a stroll. Initially, we were just planning to cross the road and buy something from Family Mart (24 hours convenient store) which is just across the road from our hotel. When we saw a coffeeshop not far from it, we ended up having supper in that coffeeshop called “Yong He Dou Jiang”.

I forgotten to take a picha of the signboard but I managed to locate the shop from google map, and best of all, Google Map Taiwan has 3D satelite images!!!!!! How to not love Taiwan the IT advance country?

Anyway, if you google for Yong He Dou Jiang, Taiwan, you will find lots of Yong He Dou Jiang in different districts in Taiwan. It’s such a common name that you only recognize the shop by its location.

Now, here’s the trouble we (Mum, Bro and I) Bananas (don’t know how to read Chinese characters) faced throughout the whole trip in Taiwan. Everything is in Chinese! We would be able to sample more Taiwanese delicacies if it’s not more the Bananaisme. T____T Fortunately, we went with relatives who reads Chinese unlike us cina sesat.

Anyway, as you can see from the menu, there are so much to choose from, if we had black hole in our tummy, we would have ordered them all. So, to keep things simple, we just order whatever we see.

And of course, there’s also the “traditional” bun, plain mantou. Normally, eaten with hot soya milk or hot tea in the Chinese kung fu movies. *LOL*

The soya bean milk, the everyone’s favourite hot drink (not mine because I don’t take soya bean). According to them, it is very delicious like very fresh and not too sweet. I tried a sip and………almost fainted. Hot tea is good for me.

This one smells like peanut butter in hot water. LOL.. Saw someone having it with the yew char kueh.

The yew char kueh is simply the best! It is very long and crispy. Super nice and tasted better than the ones we buy from the Kuching Festival. We had a lot of this.

Still undecided on what else to try, we peeked at what our Taiwanese neighbours wre having, and we kinda followed. So, we can get to taste like the locals. =x

Xiao Long Bao

The Xiao Long Bao is like steamed dumplings but in the shape of mini bao. Also, the taste is pretty similar to “Guo Tieh” (wok dumplings), just juicier. At every bite you take, the juice inside would flow out and it is extremely hot! On our first attempt (which was during dinner), most of us burnt our tongue while having this mini bao.

Then, there’s this plate of noodles we saw our Taiwanese neighbour enjoying to the very bits! So, we reckoned it should be very sedaps and we ordered one.

The “egg bag” (egg white wrapping around the egg yolk like a bag) sitting on top of the noodles is superb. The yolk is not overcooked and still very jellyish waiting to be poked. I was so tempted to poke it and let it flow into the noodle, mix it and take a bite.

Oriental Spaghetti

I’m not sure what exactly is the name of the noodle, so I call it the oriental spaghetti. Simply because the thickness and texture of the noodles is similar to spaghetti and the taste, well, Asianised bolognese without tomato paste and replacing minced beef with pork.

To me, I don’t quite like the oriental spaghetti. But for bro, he enjoyed it like our neighbour.

After our fulfilling supper, we headed over to Family Mart for some Taiwan Beer and Papaya Milk .

Slept late that night and had to woke up very early in the morning the next day at 6.30am! T____T A train to catch. Next on, our train ride.. chuuuu..chuuu…chuuuu…

Papaya Milk is well known to help boost up bust for the ladies. Bought this Uni-President Papaya Milk from Family Mart (Taiwan’s 24 hours convenient store) for TW$33 (approximately RM3.30). It tastes real good and not too sweet. When I go back to Kuching, I will ask marther to buy lotsa papaya and fresh milk. LOL

Beers in Taiwan is not expensive. A bottle of their local beer, Taiwan beer (big bottle) costs only TW$49 (approximately RM4.90). Other well known beers (Heineken, Carlsberg, etc) found in any convenient store costs TW$59-89 for the small bottles.

Little update:

So far, I’m enjoying my vacation here, although 30% of it, I’m either devastated because I lost/dropped something somewhere, or pissed off because I can’t shop due to time constraint! Can see look see look only and it is freezing cold here! Just for the record, I’ve tried Taiwan sausage, pearl milk tea, giant chicken chop, ice shave, and etc from Shih Lin Market. Quite disappointed with the food though..

I still have many days here and hope to venture more throughout the trip. I want to try Taiwan’s Malak Mien and Beef Noodles!

I miss everyone and I am fatting only over here. Gotta Level Up like gila when I return.

Cafe Ch@t is Pullman Kuching’s in-house cafe. It is situated on the ground floor of the hotel, and easily spotted from the lobby.

The cafe starts operating early in the morning, and closes very early in the evening as well. Luckily we were there an hour earlier before their closing time. Even though the cafe closes early, we could still chill in the cafe while drinking our drinks. If you plan to chill at the cafe, be sure to get your drinks ordered and paid before the counter closes.

The seatings are pretty comfy and cozy. Gladys, Yien and I sat on the couch. So we were facing this side of the cafe.

The cafe mainly serves beverages, cakes and pastries only. However, if you feel like having a bite of food, you can also order something from Puzzle and enjoy it in the cafe.

We ordered salad. Waited for quite sometime until the waitress came and informed us that they ran out of salad. o.O!!!

It was our first time trying out Cafe Ch@t that evening. We asked for recommendations on their specialties and the waitress kept recommending their Cafe Mocha.

Since the waitress kept recommending the Cafe Mocha, I decided to give it a try.

Verdict: I should have ordered something else with more coffee. The mocha is too mild.

Recommendation: For coffee lovers, you may need to request for an extra shot of Espresso for the mocha.

Yien ordered the Iced Blended Vanilla and a sip of it will give you the image of Toothfairy. It is very sweet! Too sweet for our liking.

Gladys had the Iced Flavoured Latte with Hazelnut syrup as recommended by the waitress. Yet, another mild drink. LOL

The drinks need lots of improvement and I believe they are improving. To be frank, the drinks are too ordinary. They need to have their own signature drink and special drinks to make their menu more interesting. Add the curiosity to customers taste bud and at the same time compliments the taste of coffee/tea.

If you compare the prices with other cafe, they are similar. But tastewise, seriously need to improve.

All prices are subject to services charge and government tax. These extra charges are pain in a**. Won’t mind paying them if the service is as equivalent.

Atok Kopitiam

Every time I drive pass the kopitiam , I always put a thought to visit the place someday. And finally, that someday was on the Boxing Saturday. Went there with mammee monsta after our workout at LUF. Yea, I know. Super ironic kan? Go level up like gila and end up putting more calories into the system.

Anyway, the Atok Kopitiam is just like any other kopitiam we have in Kuching, be it Kaya & Toast, IpohTown, OldTown, you name it. Even the settings and furniture are quite similar.

Atok's Teh O @ RM1.50 & Teh C Special @ RM2.50

When I asked the waiter for their most special drinks, he recommended their Teh (tea) selection of drinks. As recommended, we ordered Teh O Ice and  Teh C Special (better known to all as the Three Layers Teh C Peng) .

The Teh C Special is truly special and authentic. Authentic in the sense of the taste of the sugar (the bottom black layer seen in the picha above). Unlike other coffeeshops, they like to use the special Teh C Peng sugar syrup, here, Atok uses the Brown sugar, better known as Gula Melaka or Atap T’ng in Hokkien.

There is one thing I can proudly stand on the chair/table and say that Atok Kopitiam is different from other kopitiams based on their menu. Yes, they have those typical apek kaya and toast with soft boiled egg and what not. However, their specialties here are more on their rice and noodles selection.

Oh My Goodness! The Ayam Percik is not only fattening but also very Sedaps!!!! Boy, do I love their sambal or what?

The special sauce poured over deep fried chicken is superb and taste even better with the sambal. The sambal is spicy and hot hot hot. The veggie they served us was raw cabbage to go with the sambal as ulam. The sweet cabbage and hot sambal are irresistable. We ordered for extra sambal and veggies to satisfy the ulamness in us. LOL

Atok's Rice Crackers <-- LOL

The Ayam Percik is served with a plate of Santan (coconut milk) rice with crispy crackers and a bowl of soup.

The Bubur Ayam (Chicken Porridge) is very special. It is served with crackers on it, along with peanuts and ikan bilis and grinded chilli sauce. To us, we find the bubur pretty plain and added loads of pepper and soya sauce and *thumbs up*.

My comel Mammee Monsta camwhoring with our Bubur Ayam. See those crackers? Once you mix the crackers into the porridge, when they get soft and mushy, they actually tasted better than eating crispy crackers with a spoonful of porridge in your mouth.

I bet that Atok Kopitiam originates from Indonesia, if not, inspired with Indonesian cuisine. Why do I say so? Well, the rice and porridge are served with crackers! The first time I had crackers with my porridge was during my holiday trip in Jakarta. Hence, I believe Atok Kopitiam is Indon.

The kopitiam is situated at level 1 (ground floor) of the airport. It is just several meters away from the arrival gate. A good spot for a cup of  authentic taste of  white coffee while waiting for the arrival of your loved ones.

Oldtown White Coffee

The interior is a mixture of kopitiam and cafe style. The tables and chairs are  the “back in the days” and of marble and wood material. There are also the modern chic comfy seating by the wall.

Hybrid of the past and present

This is my first visit to Oldtown and I’m impressed with the place.

Spacious with stools

But the place just lack of the coffee aroma. I mean, since white coffee is brewed here, a tease of coffee aroma would bring in the mood for coffee.

Signature hot beverage: Oldtown White Coffee

When the coffee sat in front of me, I was like “Wooooh!! Freshly brewed white coffee. Not the instant one. Surely it must taste more ooomph!”

Oldtown White Coffee in ceramic cup

For an authentic taste of coffee, it is usually served in ceramic cup. Even the spoon also ceramic. It is said that ceramic absorb the flavour and you naturally preserved the flavour in it. Something I learnt back in the olden days.  Nowadays, we can hardly find coffeeshops which serve coffee in ceramic cups. Mostly in glasses.

RM4.50 a cup of local coffee is crazy. But it’s a franchised brand kopitiam, still reasonable.

Foamy

Very foamy at the top. Like a cup of White Coffee tarik. XD

When I took a sip of the white coffee, I wanted to cry that instant. Cry not because I finally get a taste of fresh white coffee, but because it was soooooooooooooo sweet!

Like uber uber uber sweet. The sweetness covered the coffee taste and it’s like drinking a cup of hot sweet milk T______________T

Anyway, we just “enjoyed” our coffee and fool around a bit while waiting for Datin’s arrival.

Bro recommended a pose like this but I couldn’t pull it off. He “scolded” me, saying I’m so not natural. Angry, I challenged him to strike the pose.
