It is said that Lai Foong is well known for this noodle stall for its wonton mee. So, the Kuching trio (ahlost, yien and I) led by the 2 KL zai (JJ and Kelson) went for our second round of lunch here.

Just look at the glorious shiny char siew! The kolo mee is quite different from Kuching’s kolo mee as they add Soy Sauce. Plus, it’s very oily compared to our local kolo mee. Heehee.. The Char Siew Kolo Mee comes with a bowl of soup and 2 wonton in it. The noodles are Q~

The noodles is really tasty and flavourful! I don’t know what they put in it, all I can say it’s delicious. The chicken feet is superb!

Throughout my time in KL, I never get a saucer of spicy chillies. It’s green and sometimes red, but never spicy. T____T

Some people (the brother) who are not prawn tolerant ordered Laksa Ayam (no prawns, just chicken) wteff.. Since he only wanted chicken for his laksa, the generous laksa taukehnio (lady boss) gave him extra extra beehoon (rice vermicelli). The big fella couldn’t finish the laksa in the end.
Wanted to continue posting on my Taiwan trip, but decided to show of my yesterday’s breakfast :3

I went to Foody Goody Cafe, Tabuan Stutong Commercial Centre for breakfast yesterday. Never tried the laksa there because I always berlaksa at Fat Cat Cafe, when I’m in that area.

Foody Goody Cafe is located in the same “arch” as Kuching Specialist Hospital. View map. It is very easy to spot the coffeeshop. Same row as the hospital, with long red signboard.

Kopi-O @ RM0.90

The Kopi-O (black coffee) is harum (nice fragrance). :3~~ Yea, still can find 90 cents kopi-o in Kuching.

Among all the foody goody stalls, one of the most happening one is the laksa stall.

Laksa @ RM4.00

According to @Myremi from Mum-Mum, the laksa stall is like a factory! It is true that they have at least 8 person operating the stall: 2 person prepare the ingredients, 1 cook, 5 servers. Under her sharp observation, she shared, “i timed it once. 3 bowls = 5 min. and they run out of food by 10-10:30 am. open 7 am”. I didn’t need to wait for more than 10 minutes for my order, even when it’s on a Sunday morning (where business is extra good).

So many prawnies!

The laksa (normal) comes with at least 8 prawns! That’s quite a lot for an ordinary bowl of laksa.

Big vs Small

Bro ordered BIG laksa. The portion of the BIG laksa is the same as the normal ones, just size of the prawn is different.

Lime and Sambal

The laksa comes with lime and spicy sambal – not to my liking because it has a weird after taste =x

Well, the laksa itself is pretty spicy already, don’t need to add the sambal to make it spicier.

4 sticks of Yew Char Kueh @ RM2.00 (50 cents each)

There is this Kuih stall just outside the coffeeshop. They sell freshly made yew char kueh. Who could resist it? We ordered four sticks of yew char kueh for three persons (big eaters maa).

Yew Char Kueh dippings

The yew char kueh goes supremely well with the laksa soup. You guys should give it a try. I tak tipu (no cheat) one. This can fill up your tank if you think the laksa noodle/beehoon is too little for you.

After finishing our laksa, our tummy felt a little dissatisfied as there are still plenty of space in it. =X

Han Chi Peng & Yew Char Kueh

So, we went to the kuih stall for more yew char kueh, han chi peng (something like cinnamon roll), yew char kueh with the sweet filling, and lek tau suan (mung bean soup aka sticky split green bean dessert). All for RM4.90 only!

Yew Char Kueh with sweet filling

I thought I would be the one saying, “doesn’t this reminds you of something?”, instead, my marther said it out loud first. *wipes sweat*

Lek Tau Suan

The lek tau suan is very nice just that it is too sweet. Definitely need to eat it with yew char kueh. Plus, I had another round of this lek tau suan for lunch yesterday :3

#Random:

Cash Register

Saw this cash register at the porridge stall. You don’t laugh, okay? *lamao*

This time round, I tried something different instead of the handmade noodles. I ordered laksa because the aroma of the laksa soup haunted my mind! It says, “eat me! eat me!”

Siang Hen Laksa

Apart from Laksa, they do sell nasi lemak, curry rice and many more. Multi-food stall.

Laksa condiment

They serve this special laksa sambal condiment and lime with spoon and chopsticks before serving me laksa.

Love the lighting

This is my first time tasting such laksa condiment. It’s not the typical spicy sambal with belacan in it. It is very very different from those we normally had.

Extra condiment

Because it looked so special, I bet it is good. So, I ordered an extra one =X *Greedy*

fried onions

It is actually fried onions with spicy sauce. Tastes great with lime juice and even better when mixed in the laksa.

Laksa @ RM3.50

The laksa is like any ordinary laksa. The taste is slightly mild BUT when mixed with the special condiment, the spicyness kicks in and it tasted real good. That fried onions thingy is addictive!

Laksa

I am very hungry now. I will come again for Siang Hen Laksa. Anyone?

There is this kopitiam in same block as where we normally work out at Level Up Fitness (LUF), namely, Atok Kopitiam. It is located in the Dub Commercial Centre, below Absolutely Dress Gallery. To put in a more familiar context to all Kuchingkia, it is located behind HSBC Bank.

Atok Kopitiam

Every time I drive pass the kopitiam , I always put a thought to visit the place someday. And finally, that someday was on the Boxing Saturday. Went there with mammee monsta after our workout at LUF. Yea, I know. Super ironic kan? Go level up like gila and end up putting more calories into the system.

annna & ahyienyien @ Atok Kopitiam

Camwhoring is a must, especially when out with another camwhorer. XDDDDD

Anyway, the Atok Kopitiam is just like any other kopitiam we have in Kuching, be it Kaya & Toast, IpohTown, OldTown, you name it. Even the settings and furniture are quite similar.

Similar styles, similar ambiance, similar etc..

Atok's Free WIFI

Even have free WIFI like the rest. Don’t play play. Atok also got WIFI one okeh..

Atok's Teh O @ RM1.50 & Teh C Special @ RM2.50

When I asked the waiter for their most special drinks, he recommended their Teh (tea) selection of drinks. As recommended, we ordered Teh O Ice and Teh C Special (better known to all as the Three Layers Teh C Peng) .

The Teh C Special is truly special and authentic. Authentic in the sense of the taste of the sugar (the bottom black layer seen in the picha above). Unlike other coffeeshops, they like to use the special Teh C Peng sugar syrup, here, Atok uses the Brown sugar, better known as Gula Melaka or Atap T’ng in Hokkien.

Atok's Menu

There is one thing I can proudly stand on the chair/table and say that Atok Kopitiam is different from other kopitiams based on their menu. Yes, they have those typical apek kaya and toast with soft boiled egg and what not. However, their specialties here are more on their rice and noodles selection.

Atok's Ayam Percik @ RM7.00

Oh My Goodness! The Ayam Percik is not only fattening but also very Sedaps!!!! Boy, do I love their sambal or what?

The special sauce poured over deep fried chicken is superb and taste even better with the sambal. The sambal is spicy and hot hot hot. The veggie they served us was raw cabbage to go with the sambal as ulam. The sweet cabbage and hot sambal are irresistable. We ordered for extra sambal and veggies to satisfy the ulamness in us. LOL

Atok's Rice Crackers <-- LOL

The Ayam Percik is served with a plate of Santan (coconut milk) rice with crispy crackers and a bowl of soup.

Atok's Bubur Ayam @ RM4.50

The Bubur Ayam (Chicken Porridge) is very special. It is served with crackers on it, along with peanuts and ikan bilis and grinded chilli sauce. To us, we find the bubur pretty plain and added loads of pepper and soya sauce and *thumbs up*.

ahyienyien & Bubur Ayam

My comel Mammee Monsta camwhoring with our Bubur Ayam. See those crackers? Once you mix the crackers into the porridge, when they get soft and mushy, they actually tasted better than eating crispy crackers with a spoonful of porridge in your mouth.

I bet that Atok Kopitiam originates from Indonesia, if not, inspired with Indonesian cuisine. Why do I say so? Well, the rice and porridge are served with crackers! The first time I had crackers with my porridge was during my holiday trip in Jakarta. Hence, I believe Atok Kopitiam is Indon.

Opening Hours:
Monday – Saturday | 7.30am – 6.30am
Sunday & Public Holidays | CLOSED

Piff.. why their opening hours is similar with “office hours”?

This morning, bro and I went to Kenyalang for breakfast. We were craving for some klong klong mee.

While we were walking towards the coffeeshop, we felt a little weird as we don’t hear the “klong klong” sound made by the klong klong mee owner mixing the noodles. When we arrived, we were stunned to find out that the stall owner has CHANGED!! *tearless cries* Where’s Ah Min?

With sulking face, we made our order and give the new stall a try.

Kolo Meehoon & Kolo Kueh Tiaw Kosong @ RM2.00 each

The meehoon is not overcooked. Luckily they use the medium sized meehoon and not the super thin one. That once can choke you because it’s very dry. The taste is just alright but too much Ajinamoto =X

This is how Ah Min the klong klong mee’s seafood soup looks like, taken ages ago with Nokia N72:

Ah Min's seafood soup @ RM5.00

It has prawns, meatballs, fishballs, fish, pork’s liver, mushroom, seaweed, veggie and salted veggie and spring onions.

This is how the new owner’s seafood soup looks like, taken with Nokia5800:

New Seafood Soup @ RM6.00

It has prawns, meatballs, seaweed, pork liver, KIAW??? (wonton), some veggie and spring onions.

Just the soup alone can tell how much they differ in taste, and how much it has changed, ingredientwise. =x Seafood soup with Wonton??

Same coffeeshop, different kolomee stall owner.

Same price, different ingredients and cooking style.

One Sunday morning, after Church, we went to Chong & Low Cafe for brunch to try out this Q handmade noodles @ghosttedd “lured” me to. He plurked about the Q noodles he was having for breakfast and I was very eager to try it and went to try it in that very week. ngek ngek ngek..

Chong & Low Cafe, BDC

It’s located in the same area as BDC Everise. Just next block to Everise, LEFT side. If you know the fehmes Bak Kut Teh coffeeshop, this Chong & Low Cafe is just a few lots away.

Handmade Noodles @ RM3.80

The price is a ringgit plus more than a bowl of Kolo Mee. But this is not Kolo Mee, it’s handmade noodles. Plus, they don’t use Cha Sio, they served it with three layers pork and minced mushroom meat. Yum Yum!!

Slurps~

Q? Apparently, not very Q to me. =X It’s chewy but not Q enough. Oh, did I mention that the portion is big? Well, yes, it’s so much that bro finished the other half while I go for his..

Claypot Pork Leg Rice @ RM5.00

Bro ordered this pork leg in claypot. We were quite shock that he’d ordered this as he only eat lean pork meat and not any fatty parts. Lol.. Give a wild guess who ended up eating all the gelatin – skin.

Yummy Fatty Pork Leg

Ooo.. The pork leg is delicious (not the soup). It’s jellyish and I love the texture of it. At this point, don’t talk to me about Cholestrol. XD

A relative informed me that the stir-fry stall located inside the coffeeshop has one of the best Fried Taugeh Kueh Tiaw in town. Going to try that on my next visit.

* * * * *

While waiting for our food, someone stopped by shaking hands with citizens and selling newsletter. Try and guess who it was..

Guess who?

DAP newsletter selling at RM2.00 each copy. Comes in three languages!! WOW! So, can’t use the reason, “I don’t read Chinese” as a reason to not buy it. lol

The actual name of the place is Pin Ji Cafe, a coffeeshop located beside Alliance Bank, opposite AirAsia office. Chicken Rice and More is just a name Darrel randomly came up as the place is also located just opposite Pizza and More. And also because Bryan cooks more than just Steamed Chicken Rice.

Bryan and Darrel

The Chicken Rice (Steamed or Roasted) is available daily (except Saturday and Sunday).

Steamed Chicken Rice @ RM3.50

I’m impressed with the is juiciness and tenderness of the chicken and on top of that, I likey the spring onions and fried garlic toppings. Chicken rice must have condiments to go with it. The chillies I mean. You gotta love the chillies! Very rich and spicy~ Gimme gimme more~

Apart from the chicken rice, there are different special dishes everyday! For example:

Monday – Chicken Chop Valentine @ RM7.50

Tuesday – Thai Mango Chicken Rice @ RM4.00

Wednesday – Butter Chicken Rice @ RM4.50

Thursday – Kung Pao Chicken Rice @ RM4.00

Friday – Heritage Curry Rice @ RM4.50 (vegetarian Curry upon request – potatoes )

Saturday – Quiche Galore

Sunday – off day. lol..

Chicken Chop Valentine @ RM7.50

As I described this to ahlost via SMS, “Butterish which reminds me of jagung when i eat the veggie. The meat is tender and juicy. Cooked at the right level, not too cook yet not bloody. The potatoes are too little. If eat with rice would be more full. So, should give more potatoes. Tastewise is yummy. Has a pinch of herbs taste. Oh, crispy skin.“

Kung Pao Chicken Rice @ RM 4.00

Apart from chicken, they have veggies as well. There are Ipoh style Taugeh (bean sprouts) @ RM2.00 and Garlic Soya Veggie @ RM2.50.

Garlic and Soya Baby Kailan @ RM2.50

So far, I’ve tried the Chicken Rice, Chicken Chop, Heritage Curry – vegetarian, and Baby Kailan. They are all superb. Although it’s a bit far of a walking distance for me, but I don’t mind going all the way there for yummylicious lunch.

So, if anyone is in town and don’t know where to go for lunch, just head over to Pin Ji cafe. And if you’re going there, give me a buzz, I might join you for lunch.

There’s a new Bak Kut Teh eatery in town, Ho Chiak Bak Kut Teh (formerly Nasi Padang). It is located in Ang Cheng Ho, directly opposite the KMC swimming pool.

Green tea, Kopi-O Peng and Kopi-O Peng

At first I thought the Green tea they have here is Yeo’s Green Tea, but later turned out to be fresh from the leaf! Very healthy drink. Look at the Kopi-O Peng, there are 2 layers of it, the coffee and sugar syrup.

chopped cili padi

The soy sauce presented on the table is the light soya sauce. For dark soya sauce, you will need to request for it.

Here comes the Ho Chiak Bak Kut Teh:

Bak Kut Teh @ RM6.00

Frankly, I find it not that Ho Chiak as the signage because the soup taste is pretty tad and not very strong. The portion of ingredients pretty little for the price. =x nontheless, it’s still a not bad Bak Kut Teh.

Pork ribs and spare parts *Slurps~*

The Bak Kut Teh comes with a bowl of steamed rice. You can add on RM1.00 to get garlic rice. I guess that would be tastier. But I didn’t try it. huhuhu.. Maybe next time.

yew char kueh @ RM1.00 each bowl

The Yew Char Kueh (fried bread sticks) is ordered as a side dish. It’s not inclusive with the Bak Kut Teh.

The highlight for this post would be this:

Dried Bak Kut Teh@ RM6.00

This is my first time tasting Dried Bak Kuet Teh and I like it more than the soup bak kut teh. It tastes very different from the soupy Bak Kut Teh. The pork ribs and some other parts are fried with lady’s fingers, shredded octopus, dried chillies, and some other ingredients.

Succulent tender pork rib

Spare parts - pork intestines

shredded octopus

This is very nice! I like this the most in the dried bak kut teh. At first I thought that these were ikan bilis (small anchovies), but later realised that it’s the shredded grilled dried octopus from its texture and taste. It is chewy and flavourful.

Another must try from Ho Chiak Bak Kut Teh:

Wine Chicken @ RM6.00

If you love ginger, you’d love this one. The all wine and ginger soup with chicken. A hot (as in warm not spicy) bowl of soup to keep your body warm especially during that time of the month. *chuckles*

Lots of ginger and wine

All the claypot dishes comes with a bowl of plain steamed rice. Here’s a preview of their menu:

Ho Chiak Menu

Should give it a try.

Here’s an express blogging to recap on last week’s happenings for my outstanding Project 365. Got to update them now before I forget about it or no time to update at all.

For Project 365: Day 102 July 7, 2009

On Tuesday, I thought I have evening class but the gold fish brain of mine forgotten that class was replaced on Sunday. *Slaps forehead* So, I had the evening to “enjoy while I still can”. Cooked Spaghetti Bolognese for dinner. Of course, it was superb!

For Project 365: Day 103 July 8, 2009

Snapped this before going to class. IpohTown Cafe is opening soon. To date, the signage is up already and they are recruiting waiter/waitresses, bartender, kitchen helper, cashier and etc.. All man power they need to open up. Can’t wait for them to open. By then, I can grab a cup of coffee before attending class. Perhaps even dinner! Also, can supper after class! Fuhh!! Convenient chinz..

For Project 365: Day 104 July 9, 2009

Darrel posted on plurk that he’s now a chicken rice seller. At first, we all thought he was just joking. Partnering with Bryan, now I have a new place to go for lunch as it is in the area. The chicken rice is superb, wait till you try the baby kailan!

For Project 365: Day 105 July10, 2009

My third or fourth visit to CoffeeBean in Cold Storage. Never liked it there because they close early at 10pm. The service is incredibly “great“! There were two fellas working there. One of them laughs/giggles/psycho non-stop, overblend the drinks (by the time you get your drink, it’s WATER BLENDED not even ICY!) and it creeps me to see the cakes displayed, looked like there were there for days! You can tell how dry and how “old” they are there by the look of it. o_O!! By the way, that’s Mango CheeseCake. It’s stone hard and only the mid is QUITE moist. They wanted to try it even when I told them that it looked like it has been there for days.

For Project 365: Day 106 July 12, 2009

Paid a visit (make that two) to a new cafe in town, 175° Cafe (formerly Tao) for lunch and dinner on the same day! Love the concept they have. Free Fish Spa and Wifi when dine/chill/hangout in the cafe. We spent hours in the fish pond when each person is entitled to 15 minutes only!

After church (Sunday), we went to Kim Yu Li for kueh chap as TMOT suggested the place I’ve heard so much about this kueh chap and yet haven’t been there. That day was my first time there. As what TMOT would say, “pecah virgin”. *can die laughing*

Kim Yu Li - Kueh Chap Special

Kim Yu Li is located opposite Sunny Hill School. In the same spot as third mile’s old market. Just before the traffic lights to Batu Kawa, the coffee shop is located on the left side and you can see the KIM YU LI signboard which is so big, even the short sighted can see it without glasses! lol..

Several days before, we planned to have coffee drinking on the Hot Sunday Afternoon at Deli Cafe as Alex Wong recommended the place. But the plan was postponed because there was introduction of 15 finalists of Ethnic Beauty Pageant Miss Fair & Lovely World Harvest Festival 2009 held at the Spring. We love to take pichas so we were there for the pageant.

15 finalists of various ethnics

Will post a proper post for this pageant as I took many pichas of the finalists. Some are really hot and pretty like No. 1 – Janet Bennet who won the Miss Spring Time 2009. Congrats to her and all the best! She won a free return flights to Singapore via JetStar airline.

After the pageant, we went window shopping around and I……………….saw shoes in Vincci and…………………………………I went to see only and…………….tried a few and………………………totally loved the ones I tried but……………………….I can’t have all of them because………………..there were no Sales, but………………….there were preSales (20% discounts) for Vincci members and…………………….Evey has the membership, so I………………………………accidentally bought two pairs. =X

Vincci shoes

We spent hours in Vincci, ok.. not hours, just an hour plus in Vincci waiting for me to decide which shoes and which color was suitable for me and which ones I love more. Teehee.. Thanks for being so patience, Darrel, Evey, TMOT and Ting!

Ting, Evey, Na and TMOT (with his new Billabong jacket)

A group camwhore picha before we leave. Where’s Darrel?

This cafe or more likely known as “kopitiam” (coffeeshop) is located in Petanak area. Situated directly opposite Verinice Shop. Looking back, I posted the food for this place before, foochow cuisine, but at that time, I couldn’t remember the name of the shop. Reposting again because I’m missing my favourite dish.

My favourite dish here and the one and only dish I always and never to order is the fried “Zhao Chai Hungan” (Fried big rice vermicelli with preserved vegetables).

Fried Zhao Chai Hungan @ RM4.00

There’s a new vegetarian stall in the cafe and they serve this very special dish called “Lucky Salad Yew Char Kueh”. After eating it, you sure very lucky.

Lucky Salad Yew Char Kueh @ RM1.80 for 2 pieces

My aunty introduced me to this Lamb Noodle. When I first heard of it, I was laughing away. Lamb Noodle….LAME MEE.

Anyway, the coffee shop that sells it is located in Chonglin Park, Mei Mei Cafe . Look out for the stall at the back kitchen from 6pm onwards.

Lamb Noodle @ RM5.50

It’s like stir fried noodles – Cha Chu Mee, with lamb meat. One thing for sure, the lamb is not lame. Another thing, it’s just OK Ok, So-So only to me, BUT, I think those who are afraid of the lamb smell, would enjoy this as it’s not lamb-smelly.
