On Wesak Day which was on May 28th, 2010, I went on holidays after my last day at work (ya, I know. So nice right? Don’t jeles lah) with my family and relatives to Singapore for 6 days.

Anyway, this is a super long post on just Day 1. So, enjoy lah.

Maxi Cab is a 7-seater maxi taxi cab. It costs SGD$50 from the airport to the hotel (if not mistaken, the price is fixed and transfers to any hotel in Singapore – small island afterall).

We stayed 5 nights in Park Hotel, Clarke Quay. It is approximately RM400++ per night. We were lucky to get the intro-promo rates as it is a new hotel in the area. If I’m not mistaken, as of July, the hotel rate per night is approximately RM796 per night.

Fortunately, there were not many people checking-in to the hotel. The lobby is just so small and with just a few humans standing there already felt so crowded.

The hotel shuttle service is FREE and very punctual! We move around town mostly using the hotel shuttle service. Just need to know where the pickup point is and the time of pickup. Super convenient and super cost saver.

Initially, we wanted to stay in Somerset a service apartment since there are so many of us (6 adults 2 children) and also because it is just so demdem near Clarke Quay, practically just below its nose only. In the end, we decided to stay in Park Hotel because 1) it’s new 2) cheaper (the appartment wanted to charge us a week rate instead of 5 nights rate because their minimum stay is for a week) and 3) convenience.

Had our lunch in one of the cafe and then, we went shopping in Meidi-ya, a Japanese supermarket in Liang Court. So love the supermarket!

Singapore Flyer

We went to Singapore Flyer after the kid’s afternoon nap.

We went on the flyer too early lah. The sun sets 1 hour later than in Kuching. So, we went at the wrong time, so didn’t manage to capture Sunset view in Singapore. T_______T so lam sad.

Anyway, that is not the real sad part. The saddest part is that, I didn’t transfer the pichas taken that evening including dinner and etc into the laptop. The next day, we went to The Universal Studios and I stupidly deleted the pichas taken the night before thinking that I’ve already transferred the picha when I actually HAVEN’T TRANSFER yet! T___________T

For non-Singaporean, we get to enjoy special deal for the Singapore Flyer. For every 2 paying adults (SGD$29.50 x 2 = SGD$59), 1 child goes in for FREE. Since we have 6 adults, so we can bring in 3 children for FREE. Most importantly, must bring along your passport to entitle for the foreigner’s special deal.

After the Singapore Flyer, we walked to Marina Square. We had our dinner there and shopped in the mall before going back to our hotel.

Sigh.. So sad that I lost the second half set of the pichas for Day 1. Took so many funny funny pichas in the Singapore Flyer. T________T

Well, this is end of Day 1 and trying to get over the lost of pichas, Day 2 is even more funciting! Look forward to it!

When we arrived, it was very romantic inside the Life Cafe. Seems like the Life Cafe is also participating in the Earth Hour “Shut it Down”. They switched off the lights and only the lantern lights were switched on. The lantern lights were really dim and we can barely read a single letter from the menu. Had to use our mobile phone’s torch light to read the menu and check on the order form.

Sushi Kin bill

Eeeeeeee… I’ve been dining in Sushi King for so long and only now I realized that it is registered under Sushi Kin Sdn Bhd, KIN without the G.

Before we start grabbing sushi and stuffing ourselves with rice, Kerbau asked how many plates of sushi we had on Day 1. I told him that four of us (ahlost, dys, JF and I) had 27 plates. Then, he smirked and set a new target for Day 2. He said that in order to beat Day 1’s record, each of us must eat 10 plates (siaw one), so we can get total of 40 plates! Anyway, here’s the stats of plates end of the night:

Kerbau – 11 plates
Steve – 10 plates
Yien – 6 plates
Annna – 6 plates

We were short of 7 plates to reach the target. LOL.. Siaw man.. Imagine I eat 10 plates! Gotta level up like gila (mad) later *duuuuuuu*

Anyway, in total we had 49 plates including the take away sushi. Tapaoed (take away) some Salmon sushi and Unagi sushi for ahlost and JF since they were having class and had to skip the Day 2 Sushithon. huhuhu..

As it was a Wednesday (ladies night at Silhouette), we enjoyed our dinner with free house pouring of the night, Gin. There were two types of mixture: Gin Tonic or Gin with Sprite.

I ordered Gin with sprite as my first glass and it tasted somewhat terrible to me. Then, I tried marther’s Gin tonic which tasted much much much better. My seconds and onwards was Gin tonic.

The pizza funghi e prosciutto consists of turkey ham, mushrooms, tomato and mozzarella cheese. We love this pizza the most among all they have in Silhouette. Also, I recommend this pizza for you to try!

Pizza A’matriciana consists of beef bacon, onions, chilli, tomato and mozzarella cheese. This pizza is slightly spicy. I liked it but not bro as he don’t take spicy food.

After our dinner, we continued drinking and hee hee haa haa… Then, we went home. After an hour later, I was back in Silhouette again for second round, and this time with Evey. Then, Ehren dropped by and joined us.

Kuala Lumpur to Taipei via AirAsia X

I went to Taiwan for vacation with my family during Chinese New Year 2010. Last CNY, we went to Jakarta. Comparing both the vacation, gotta admit that I enjoyed my trip in Jakarta more. Reason being, the vacation in Taiwan was superly rush (everyday move to new city, new hotel. Very short time to shop – practically can’t enjoy shopping).

Anyway, I managed to sort out some pichas on Day 1 of my trip but I won’t be able to update the whole trip in details, otherwise, Dine with Annna would be Traveling Taiwan with Annna. *LAMAO* Well, I took more than 2,800 pichas (350 pichas a day in average) and I can’t possibly post them all up here. However, I’m sharing the pichas (still uploading) in Facebook and you may check it out to have an idea how the 8 days tour in Taiwan is like.

The 8 days tour covers 4 cities in Taiwan, namely Taipei, Kaohsiung, Hualien, and Taichung. Altogether, I think we visited approximately 20 (plus minus) tourist spots. We visited several famous temples and also those “tourist marketing” spots which makes us sit in a classroom to listen to some herbal stories and how good they are, namely, Ling Zhi, Deer plasenta, pearl powder, royal jelly and etc.. Not cheap lah! All those costs < RM1,000. To me, visiting those places are a waste of time because I have no interest in them, except sampling those expensive stuff. Plus, not like I can afford any of them. Piff.. Those time should be properly spent in night markets or shopping malls where NT (Taiwan dollars) are fairly well spent.

Anyway, I’ll just highlight some places of MY interest and MY makaning (eating/dining) experience in Taiwan. So, just bear with the sudden change of nationality of this blog and feel free to comment or enquire about the trip.

Upon arrival, we were brought to the National Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall. We spent most of our time there taking pichas and me, camwhoring around.

They have this beautiful garden on the other side of the area. We were like sakais children who visited the garden of candies when we saw the Sakura trees (cherry blossoms).

We had dinner our first dinner in Taiwan at Taroko Restaurant. It was an eight course meal and it was a really good meal.

After dinner, we were brought to Shihlin Market, as if dinner was not fulfilling (how can not get fat).

Shihlin Night Market is located in the Shilin District of Taipei City, Taiwan. It is considered as one of the biggest and well known night market in Taipei. There are 2 parts of the market; Eateries and Clothes. They are both just accross the road and we need to walk across via the underground bridge to get to the other side. Oh, jaywalking is a very serious offence in Taiwan.

The most popular food in Shihlin Night Market (according to our tour guide) is the Super Big Chicken Chop. It is NT50 (approximately RM5.50) for a gigantic piece of deep fried chicken fillet with seasoned powder on it.

#Tips to shop for food in Taiwan: the longer the queue, the better the food. If you see a stall with a long queue, the food sold there must be good.

Needless to say, we joined the queue to have a taste of the popular chicken chop. It was a long queue, bro volunteered to wait in line while I hunt for the other Taiwan delicacies: Pearl Milk Tea and Taiwan sausages.

The long wait was paid off. Bro was satisfied with the chicken despite the long wait.

I took a few bites off the chicken chop and it is indeed very good! Now I know why it is so popular.

Since Taiwan is the pioneer of pearl milk tea, it is the first item in our must have list. While bro was waiting for the chicken chop, I went to the next stalls (both left and right side of the chick chop stall) to buy a glass of pearl milk tea – original flavour.

The size is like Starbucks Venti and the price is averagely NT30-35 (RM3.30-3.80) each.

Verdict: Kuching’s pearl milk tea is much nicer =X

There were many sizes of sausages to choose from. From big to small. The big ones are sold by weight and then, cut into smaller pieces for easy chewing. As for the small ones, they are slightly bigger than the ones we have in Kuching.

Pricewise, they are pretty slightly more expensive by a few-ty cents. How funny, right? And we thought we would be able to enjoy cheaper Taiwan sausages since they are from Taiwan. Small ones cost NT25 (approximately RM2.75). Big ones cost NT100 (approximately RM11).

Verdict: Even though it is slightly more expensive, but tastewise, it is supremely yummy! Worth the price you paid for it.

Giant white bittergourd

The week before I leave for Taiwan, my colleagues recommended that white bittergourd juice it is a must try. I gave the “ewww..” face and they assured me that it is not bitter. Despite their assurance, I was still reluctant to try it. But mum bought it and I stole a sip to try.

Verdict: Not bitter, yet sweet and very very very refreshing!

In case you don’t know how white bittergourd looks like, I took a picha of it (above). It looks fake and even feels fake! But it’s the real thing.

Then, we stumbled upon this one Oyster Omelet stall with lots of “Corner wit Love” pichas at the signboards.

Could this be the famous oh-ah-jien from the drama? We didn’t try it due to the time as we need to queue for it and that we had to leave the place to check-in to our hotel for the night. T___________T <CIS!!!)

Since we don’t have the time to queue for the oyster omelet, I went to buy a packet of this stinky tofu since every corner of the night market, there is at least one stall of it. So, I reckoned that I should at least give it a try.

P/S: I don’t eat tofu.

About 5 minutes walk from the night market, there is this huge wholesale-like fruit stall which sells all varieties of Taiwan fruits.

After loitering for about 1 hour an a half at Shihlin Night Market, we gathered at our coach on time and we were brought to our first night stay at Holiday Inn Express. As if the night was not tiring enough, we went out to loiter on our own after throwing our luggage in the room.

Atok Kopitiam

Every time I drive pass the kopitiam , I always put a thought to visit the place someday. And finally, that someday was on the Boxing Saturday. Went there with mammee monsta after our workout at LUF. Yea, I know. Super ironic kan? Go level up like gila and end up putting more calories into the system.

Anyway, the Atok Kopitiam is just like any other kopitiam we have in Kuching, be it Kaya & Toast, IpohTown, OldTown, you name it. Even the settings and furniture are quite similar.

Atok's Teh O @ RM1.50 & Teh C Special @ RM2.50

When I asked the waiter for their most special drinks, he recommended their Teh (tea) selection of drinks. As recommended, we ordered Teh O Ice and  Teh C Special (better known to all as the Three Layers Teh C Peng) .

The Teh C Special is truly special and authentic. Authentic in the sense of the taste of the sugar (the bottom black layer seen in the picha above). Unlike other coffeeshops, they like to use the special Teh C Peng sugar syrup, here, Atok uses the Brown sugar, better known as Gula Melaka or Atap T’ng in Hokkien.

There is one thing I can proudly stand on the chair/table and say that Atok Kopitiam is different from other kopitiams based on their menu. Yes, they have those typical apek kaya and toast with soft boiled egg and what not. However, their specialties here are more on their rice and noodles selection.

Oh My Goodness! The Ayam Percik is not only fattening but also very Sedaps!!!! Boy, do I love their sambal or what?

The special sauce poured over deep fried chicken is superb and taste even better with the sambal. The sambal is spicy and hot hot hot. The veggie they served us was raw cabbage to go with the sambal as ulam. The sweet cabbage and hot sambal are irresistable. We ordered for extra sambal and veggies to satisfy the ulamness in us. LOL

Atok's Rice Crackers <-- LOL

The Ayam Percik is served with a plate of Santan (coconut milk) rice with crispy crackers and a bowl of soup.

The Bubur Ayam (Chicken Porridge) is very special. It is served with crackers on it, along with peanuts and ikan bilis and grinded chilli sauce. To us, we find the bubur pretty plain and added loads of pepper and soya sauce and *thumbs up*.

My comel Mammee Monsta camwhoring with our Bubur Ayam. See those crackers? Once you mix the crackers into the porridge, when they get soft and mushy, they actually tasted better than eating crispy crackers with a spoonful of porridge in your mouth.

I bet that Atok Kopitiam originates from Indonesia, if not, inspired with Indonesian cuisine. Why do I say so? Well, the rice and porridge are served with crackers! The first time I had crackers with my porridge was during my holiday trip in Jakarta. Hence, I believe Atok Kopitiam is Indon.

The Carvery

Carvery Restaurant is located in Pending and it’s not very far from the town. Carvery is well known for its meaty lunch and dinner buffet. You get to taste a wide variety of meat right from the skewers!

It’s not surprising that the place is packed almost at all time and especially full house during the weekends.

It is advisable to make an early reservation before hand. This is to secure you  a table and to avoid disappointment to go all the way to feast and yet FULL HOUSE. By then, Super GG lorh..

The buffet consists of a wide range of salad, saute veggies and meat, soup of the day and non-stop serving of 14 baked, grilled and roasted meat and seafood (may be refilled).

The salad bar looks very inviting. We all need to maintain a balanced diet, veggies is also a MUST to feast on. Apart from that, who would say “No” to those crispy fresh imported lettuces? Plus, there are imported chicken and turkey ham. Yum Yum!

For starters, I had the salad and veggies.

The bread is very fluffy and soft, and goes very well with the soup.

Don’t take too much of the soup. You definitely don’t want to fill up your tank with just soup and bread.

Before serving all the meat to every table, they served us the two sauces to go with the meat first. There are the black pepper sauce and brown sauce.

The meat buffet consists of chicken, lamb, beef and sausages cooked in many ways; grilled, roasted, and saute. They are brought to the tables still on the skewers and we can decide the cut size of the meat

We all get small slices of meat. If you think that the waitress is ngiawchee (stingy) for serving us such a small piece of meat, you have mistaken her for it. They serve us in tiny pieces because there are approximately 14 kinds of  meat and seafood for us to try!

If they serve us in big pieces, by the time we reach the 4th or 5th piece, we are full already. Then, we won’t be able to try everything they have prepared. If you accumulate all the small pieces of meat in one plate, you’ll get a mountain of meat! Don’t believe me, see it for yourself and add them all up on a plate:

Bro said the grilled fish is a bit too plain and nothing. So, he made a “toast” by putting the fish on his freshly baked bread.

After a long hot day outside, we went to the Spring for free aircond. There were some postage stuffs to do (there’s a mini post office on the Basement level). Then, we went up to MBO to get the “Where Got Ghost” movie tickets for bro’s friends. Apparently, the 8pm show is full house….AGAIN!

Saw this “Tsunami” movie poster while waiting for our turn at the Ticket Kiosk. Looks good. I’m looking forward to it. Hopefully it’s not fully booked during the Raya weekend.

On the way down, we stopped by Fitness Concept and checked out their treadmills. I’m looking for a good yet affordable treadmill. Need to get one at home since I stopped gyming a year ago =X Starting to feel fat. Need to lose some fat! Weight is not an issue, fat is. But a treadmill would cost up to RM5k!! Huuhuu..

The cheaper or FOC way is to do jogging every morning, but the problem is that it’s so hard for me to wake up early and feel so lazy to run in the morning. Perhaps run around my own living room, can? lol.. At least with the equipment at home, I can run on it whenever I’m free.

Yoghurt Ice Cream @ RM2.00

We stopped by Sugarbun for ice-cream. They were selling the new flavour, YOGHURT (which was typo error there). The lady serving us was promoting the new flavour and kept persuading me to try.

Nuff said, her persuasion succeeded. I bought myself a RM2 yoghurt ice cream while bro didn’t want to risk it, stick with the RM1.50 original ice cream.

The yoghurt ice cream is tasty and yoghurtish. It’s like eating yoghurt itself, just colder and more fattening. It’s a bit sour, sour like yoghurt. It’s still soft and smooth like the regular ice cream. The portion is still the same despite the extra 50 cents.

I like the interior and the ambiance feels Europeanish and quite vinty. Plus, there’s a chandelier in the middle of it! So, do look up for it when you’re there. It’s a pretty chandelier.

Oh, the walls are painted in purple. Do you know that purple is a royal color in the ancient time? The color truly matches the theme. And also, purple is an inspiration color which stimulates the mind of an artist.

Imagine my parents name me Anna Wella instead of Anna Bella. Hahaha.. That’d be cool.

We were introduced with the friendly staff and brought to our seats. While waiting for the stylist to attend us, we were treated with drinks and magazines. But, I prefer camwhoring myself. Hakhakhak..

While camwhoring, I had to decide what type of hairstyle to get. Well, I intend to keep my hair long, so maybe just get a trim.

I used to have bob hairstyle. After sometime, I decided to have long hair again. So, from time to time, I’d go to a saloon (several places) and get my hair trimmed. Sometimes, when my fringe is going below my eyes, I’d trim them a bit by myself (almost all the time, end up in a saloon to repair that nasty haircut of mine). The prob with this “personalised” hairstyle of mine, is that, my hair ends tend to curl. Simply because they are just sitting on my shoulders. Even when I “shape” them using the hairdryer to curl inwards, they will still curl outward after sometime.

Before going for a hair wash, the stylist will check and analyse our scalp and asks us few questions about it. Like if scalp is oily, lose a lot of hair or not and etc.

I highly recommend Stylist Chien. He’s really a pro. He knows what he is doing and what he is dealing with. He understands and meets the need of his clients.

Once seated, he’ll ask you questions regarding your hair, like which part of your hair which you have trouble with, any part which you don’t like, where is more difficult to handle and etc.. Once he understand the condition of your hair, he’ll then explain the reasons, ways of managing and before snipping your hair away, he even explained before hand how he will do it and how it’ll affect your hair and etc. He even taught me the way to blow my hair so it won’t curl the opposite way. *thumbs up*

Went to Baba Ganoush and tried their special drinks, Kasturi Plum and Cincau C + Plum. The Kasturi plum is good! Fresh blended lime juice with plum at the bottom. The other one, cincau C and plum, I pass. =X Tasted funny.
