Planet Sambal Cafe

There’s a new cafe in town, Planet Sambal. It is our new lunch spot and it operates 24 hours a day! Located in Padungan, sitting in between Ipanema and Grappa. Good spot I must say, as it can feed the night clubbers late at night or very early in the morning! :D

Planet Sambal Cafe

I like the interior very much. Simple, modern, chic and  retro yet sophisticated. I like the color combination used here; white, black and pink. I like the lightings.

Spot anyone familiar?

I like their decorations and furnishings and I especially like the table mat.

The cafe serves mainly local cuisines. There are various types of food to pick from. From Fastfood to slowfood ordering from the menu.

Varieties of food at the Fastfood counter

If you have short lunch hour like mine which is 1 hour only, go for the fastfood. Unless you have plenty of free time to spare and patience to wait, go ahead and order from menu – only applicable during peak hours like Lunch.

By the way, it is self service at the fastfood counter. You scoop your own dish.

My RM7.50 lunch plate

This plate of lunch, my friends, costs me RM7.50 for steamed plain rice served with Sambal Sotong, Beef Rendang and pickles. Some say it’s expensive, I’d say it’s worth it.

The Sambal Sotong is superb! The sambal sauce is like the nasi lemak sambal and it’s SPICY!! I hate sambal which is not spicy at all or tadly spicy. I want SPICY! *in the SPARTAAA tone* Rating this at 8.5/10

The Beef Rendang is delicious!! Savouring the tender and succulent beef. The rendang is just that good. Rating this at 8/10

Yummylicious Sambal Sotong and Beef Rendang. My fav

Ice Nescafe @ RM2.50

Iced drinks are pricier than Kopitiam but the hot drinks are ranged from RM1.50 and of big cups.

Hate to say but their service is extremely slow. A colleague of mine  ordered Mee Goreng and she waited for more than 45 minutes and her noodles never came. We accompanied waiting with her even after we finished  our lunch. In the end up, she gave up waiting and we left with her empty stomache as we need to rush back to office.

Menu #1

There were many pages from the menu but I only select 2 menu pichas to share. Hey, I don’t want to risk my head on the plate showing everything they have. Pay a visit to experience the food here.

Menu #2

The food here are affordable and reasonable plus the portion is pretty big. How do I know even when my colleague ditched her meal after the long wait? Well, I peeped on the neighbour tables. Hehehe..

For Project 365: Day 69 June 4, 2009

Hopefully the food quality maintains and service improves, so I can enjoy these yummilicious food again on my next visit.

I just went there just now. One of the male staff was in a bad mood when taking order and slam food and drinks on my table.

The food was so so but I don’t feel I should pay for the price since the service was suck big time due to staff attitude problem.

i haven’t gone to this place before, but my friends did.. i can see that the restaurant’s spending too much on the fancy decorations of the restaurant.. but maybe that’s what people call classy.. from the 2-not-so-good comments i read above, i can give my honest opinion, they should maintain the service and food to maintain the “classy”ness of the restaurant…

but that’s just my opinion la… no one’s perfect though… well… will try go there someday.. hehehehe

The place is as classy as you say it but the service is not classy at all. The food quality and service are like rain in Kuching. Not consistent. =x

Restaurant is a service industry, food is the product. If your product sells well, but service quality is low, your sales is just alright but for how long? If you’re service quality and products are good, you’re doing well.

I agree with Azie. But business is business.

I agree with you on that. No business is perfect, but they improve from time to time. Mistakes are mistakes, but repetitive mistakes give bad impression. Just my 2 cents.

I do enjoy the food but sometimes, the service is really unbearable. However, I notice some improvement. Nowadays, the stir fry are served pretty fast. :)

P/s: I noticed that the nasi lemak sambal is less spicy now :(

Lol.. you gotta be kidding me. I enjoy the food there as well and I only comment that their service is poor – slow. Just FYI, I lunch there almost every once in a week as my work place is nearby as well!

If it’s your territory, you should’ve yellow tape it then. :D

Am thinking of going here for lunch today!

Have walked past it many times, it often looks busy and it has a stylish design, so hopefully the food is also good ;-)

:) The next time you’re in the area, drop by for lunch. Definitely must try then you’ll know.
The food is not bad, price wise – affordable.

If you’re in a hurry and looking for a quick lunch, you can try their fastfood.

I tried it today! Had the nasi goreng planet sambal – it was ok, but not a great dish, just average i’d say. Nice interior and style to the place but as other people have also said, staff attitude is not good, most of them seem to be pretty damn miserable. Price wise its ok too, my friend had the laksa special but prefers the one at Green hill corner :)
Might go back here again sometime, but with so many other good eating options in Kuching it might be a while.
