Birthday Dinner @ B.I.G. Ben’s, Publika, Solaris Dutamas

Initially wanted to spend the evening by myself: do self reflection and stuff, end up being dated by ahGe and Yomi. Last last just with ahGe because Yomi was down with food poisoning *pity her*

So, Ge and I went to B.I.G (Ben’s Independent Grocer) Ben’s, Publika for dinner. There’s their Food Store inside/beside the supermarket.

image

For starter, we had roasted potatoes (RM12.90). Love the herbs on it! Especially yummy with lots and lots of Tabasco sauce dipping :3

image

For main, we shared the Mushroom lasagna and salad. Although we shared this, but we failed to finish it! The lasagna is so rich with cheese and the mushrooms are fabulous here!

image

Hardly eat the bread in the salad. Too much to eat! *LOL*

image

What’s birthday without the birthday cake. We also shared this slice of carrot cake. The best! The carrot cake is soft and moist.

image

Love the cheese cheese icing :D

Thanks for the treat, Ge!

XOXO

Birthday Lunch @ Monte’s, Bangsar Shopping Centre

It has been our (Colleagues and I) simple ritual to treat the Birthday person(s) a good good lunch. We would normally go beyond our usual budget and normally drive out from our workplace to Restaurants or Cafe. For my Big Day, the Colleagues organised a Birthday Lunch at Monte’s Restaurant & Wine Bar, Bangsar Shopping Centre for me :D *touched*

Since we only have like an hour for lunch, so, it was quite a “Rush Hour” luncheon for everyone (which we ended going back 40 minutes late :P ).

The various reasons why we chose the venue are:

  • Distance (1-2km from office); and
  • good food and price.

Monte’s serve daily Executive Set Lunch from RM24.90++ onwards. There are 3 choices of Executive Set Lunch:

  1.  Sirloin Steak with Onion Sauce (RM28.90)
  2. Grilled Chicken Fillet with Garlic Cream Sauce (RM24.90)
  3. Home-Made Chicken Burger with Foccacia Bread (RM24.90)

Each set lunch comes with soup, main course, dessert of the day and coffee or tea.

#Starter

Mushroom Soup

Creamy rich mushroom soup. You can also opt for their pumpkin soup.

Always for choices of soup to try the variety.

#Main Course

image

Grilled Chicken Fillet with Garlic Cream Sauce

The grilled chicken is served with grilled french beans, carrots tomato and fries. Looks and tastes good. The chicken if tender and juicy, plus the sauce is the yums!

image

Home-Made Chicken Burger with Foccacia Bread

The chicken burger is served with green salad and fries. The burger itself is delicious! I didn’t eat the top bread as the portion of the chicken pattie and bottom bun is so fulfilling already :D

image

Thick chicken pattie

The uber thick home-made chicken pattie is very goooooood! Love the pickled onions on the cheese <3

image

Happie with the Chicken Burger

#Dessert of the day

image

Vanilla Ice-Cream and Coffee

For dessert, we have a choice of a scoop of ice-cream flavours (chocolate, strawberry and vanilla) or fresh fruits (tropical fruit, normally 2 pieces of watermelon).

The lunch set ends with a cup of coffee or tea.

Before leaving the restaurant, we took a few group pichas but that’s in my colleague’s camera. Will post it up here once I get hold of the copies. :3

Glenmorangie Orange Retro Funk Night @ The Pool, Jalan Ampang

Last Friday, I attended the Orange Retro Funk Night by Glenmorangie at The Pool, Jalang Ampang with the tagline “Unnecessarily Well Made”. Managed to pack my bag after the month end closing at work and head over to the party…..slightly late.

Glenmorangie is a distillery located in Tain, Ross-shire, Scotland which produces single malt scotch whiskey. It is said that the brand name Glenmorangie comes from the Scots Gaelic Gleann mor na sithe which means ‘valley of tranquility’.

Glenmorangie Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky The Original

Keeping perfection in mind

Crafting “Unnecessarily well made” whisky for over 160 years.

  • Glenmorangie uses the tallest stills in Scotland which produces the very lightest and purest vapours make it to the top of their long copper necks, giving a smoother, purer and more elegant whisky.
  • Glenmorangie selects the finest oak casks to mature their whisky. Each casks are used one twice to ensure that the maximum amount of flavour is always extracted during maturation, delivering a rounder, smoother taste.
  • The whisky creators travel the world in search for exceptional casks that will provide additional, intriguing layers of flavours to the original character of Glenmorangie.

The theme of the night was Orange and The Pool was decorated well to the citrusy theme.

The crowds were entertained with the groovy mix of Daikanyama’s resident DJ and the backbeat of Deer Society – Alex Asquared.

There were 2 female models dressed in retro-inspired body paint. Standing in between them makes me feel like a midget! I’m the compressed version of them – short and chubby

Glenmorangie The Original and I

That evening, I get to taste and experience the unlimited pouring of ten year old Glenmorangie Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky The Original perfected by the sixteen men of Tain.

The bar

The Glenmorangie Zest Serve

The specially designed Glenmorangie Zest serve to ritualise and infuse Glenmorangie The Original and Orange skin/zest.

There are several ways to enjoy Glenmorangie: Neat, with water or with ice. Each serving gives different experience and flavour of the whisky as described by Dr Bill Lumsden:

Neat – To try our whisky neat is to experience it in its purest form, where the complexity of the flavours and aromas is at its fullest intensity.
With Water -A little water will soften the alcohol, causing a change in the texture and bouquet of the whisky, and revealing further layers of aromas and complexity.

Over Ice – Adding two or three large rocks of ice to your whisky will close down the top notes that were released with water accentuating instead the base flavours from the oak barrel.

Glenmorangie Glass

Even the glass you use to serve makes a different, just like drinking wine. The types of glasses you use influenced the effect on the flavour. So does it effect the flavour for Glenmorangie. To enjoy Glenmorangie at its best is to use a simple yet good quality glass which allows the aroma to be released when adding water or ice.

Glenmorangie ambassadors holding iPad with the Glenmorangie “Spin The Bottle” App. It was a penalty app! What ever result you get from the results, you were to drink up from a sip to bottoms up! Nasty app! *LOL*

Apart from the free flow pouring of Glenmorangie, there were giveaways of the 10 year old Glenmorangie The Original that night for the best dressed.

There were also games for everyone to participate like Easter Egg hunting. Those who found the golf ball hidden in The Pool were prized with a bottle of Glenmorangie!

Being in an event as such, I get to meet new friends and also meet up with the familiar faces, catching up while sipping Glenmorangie  The Original in hand. I’m still learning to acquire the taste of whisky and slowly appreciate it more :)

Complement you look with High waist shorts

The ultimate compliment to your character as a woman is high waisted shorts especially if you are blessed with an hour glass figure. These shorts give you a much desired flattering shape make you look absolutely beautiful. The shorts are not just for women with hour glass body shapes but also for women who have small waists and hip that are not exactly broad. Women who are in that category where they have broader shoulders than hips can be complimented by these shorts because they will give a more curved looking body. You could also have a boy like figure which is straight all the way down. You too can try the shorts to bring out you femininity. So regardless of your body shape you can make yourself look good for an occasion. Do not be fooled by the magazines you read, celebrities too have often used these shorts to enhance their body shapes. So don’t always think that all women better than you. If Hollywood babes are wearing them you too can boost up your body image and look good. These high waist garments are known to exude confidence in you making you look happier and ready to take on the day. You must integrate them perfectly to make sure you are looking you best. The shorts do not limit you to the type of dress you have in mind for an occasion. They will compliment all dresses from body-con dresses to maxi dress. Again if you choose to do a skirt and a blouse you can also look elegant in them all you have to do is to carefully select the right kind of blouse to wear. The most recommended blouses to wear are frilled blouses, butterfly-sleeved blouses low-necked and strapless tops. The key is to put emphasis on the style of these shorts, which you should be able to do by wearing blouses that are short or fitter, or a blouse that can be tucked in, a touch above the waistline maybe. Don’t forget a dainty belt and matching heels to complete the stunning look.

Birthday Eve Dinner @ Opus Bistro, Jalan Bangkung, Bangsar

Opus Bistro is an exquisite Italian restaurant located in the quiet neighbourhood of Jalan Bangkung, Bangsar. Didn’t know there’s a row of fine restaurants in this neighbourhood until Hik brought me over for dinner.

image

This is a nice place for business meetings or just casual meals. They serve set lunches during the day and full course meals for lunch and dinner (from appetisers and starters, entrees to desserts).

image

The restaurant interior is cosy and it has a nice ambiance. I just love decorations on the wall and the seats. Fully cushioned seats by the wall.

image

Drinking water served in blue drinking glasses

image

Earl grey tea in a pot served with brown and white sugar cubes and sweetener.

image

Like any Italian restaurant, we were served with bread and vinaigrette (olive oil and balsamic vinegar). Simply dip the bread into the vinaigrette to start off. I didn’t take any because I was reserving my tummy space for some real food. :D

image

For starters, we had the Seafood Antipasti Platter (RM45) to share. The platter comes with grilled tiger prawns and rocket salad, fresh clams in white wine sauce, baked scallops, squid in arrabiata sauce, and 3 slices of baguette.

image

I love every single one of them! Everything was cooked with perfection! The prawns were still soft and fresh, the squids were not overcooked and still very soft and easy to chew, the clams in the O-M-G-yummy sauce and the scallops were absolutely delicious!

image

A picha of me with the seafood antipasti platter. So loving this <3

image

Spaghetti alla Opus @ RM22 (Primi); RM36 (Secondi)
the dish that made us famous

Saw this in the menu and included it into our order because it has to be that good to have made the restaurant famous.

image

At the first glance, the spaghetti looks like any other restaurant’s seafood pasta, but behold! The spaghetti spiced with fresh herbs with fresh clam, mussel, prawns, squid and tomato is simply delicious. Fresh ingredients make delicious food.

image

For the second entree, we had the Angus Tenderloin (200g) @ RM62 which may be pricey for just a cut of cow named Angus, but comparing this with the other restaurants with similar pricing, this baby wins them all! This baby is served with veggies of carrots, asparagus, brocolli and potato wedges.

When making the order, the friendly waiter asked how well do we want the steak to be. In unison, we asked for Medium Rare. The outcome:

image

O-M-G-Y-U-SO-BLOODY-PERFECT?????

image

For the sauce, we chose the red wine and pink peppercorn. This is the best steak sauce I’ve ever tasted! Love the after taste from the pink peppercorn.

To date, this is the best steak ever tasted!

image

After pigging on all the food, I told Hik not to talk to me for a moment as I want to savour all the goodness in me. *Bliss*;)

However, still can talk on what dessert to nom. XD

image

We ordered Chocolate Desire because I believe that nothing can go wrong with chocolate ;) The waiter told us that we need to wait for 20 minutes for the dessert to be prepared. So, we agreed to wait.

We talked and managed to catch up with each others ongoing since the last time we met each other…………..which was quite long time ago :)

Then, the waiter came back to our table after 30 minutes, empty handed, he apologised for the delay as the first batch was burnt and the chef has to redo the whole thing. Since we’re still full and we weren’t rushing to leave yet, so we didn’t make a fuss over it and just tell the waiter we’re okay to wait, and continued our conversations.

image

Then, the dessert came……………………………..with a candle and a Happy Birthday sign on it!!

Gave Hik “the-look”. Really, I didn’t expect this :) Thanks!

I feel dem pai seh weii.. Both Hik and the waiter sang Happy Birthday song *actually I was enjoying it while LAMAOing in my heart*

image

 The Chocolate Desire @ RM19

The warm chocolate cake topped with fresh strawberries, served with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream is one havenly dessert!

 image

When I sliced the chocolate cake, the filling poured out. Freshly baked melted chocolate cake! No wonder it took the Chef so long to make it. It was really orgasmic. Like I said, nothing can go wrong with chocolate!

P/S: The Chocolate Desire was on the house for Birthday Celebrations (or probably because they felt sorry we had to wait so long for it) Anyway, :D  Untung!!

image

Thanks for the wonderful treat, Hik! Everything was the best tasted and nothing was alang-alang. :3
