During our weekend getaway to Legoland in Johor Bahru, we went to Restoran Woon Kiang in Stulang for our first round of dinner. The place is well known in JB for its Kway Teow Kia (flat rice noodles) in braised pork gravy and served with an assortment of braised pork meat and spare parts, along with some other dishes such as braised duck and stewed salted vegetables.
Kway Teow Kia is one of the staple food in JB and it is very similar to Kuching’s Kueh Chap. Only difference is that they use kway teow which is flat rice noodles and Kuching’s version uses rice noodle but in square shaped and once it is cooked, it will look like rolled rice noodle..see this for a better picture of Kueh Chap.
It was drizzling, so, I didn’t capture the front of the shop. Ran from the car to the shop and missed out on the shop’s signage. Heh..
Like a typical coffee shop, the kitchen/stall is manned in front of the shop and you order your food from there. Since we’re unsure how things are done here, we stood in front of the stall until someone came to ask what we wanted. But because we don’t know how to order like the other patrons, they speak so fast! Ended up with cham cham, semua mau (mix mix, everything also want). *point point point*

When they served our order to our table, we were shocked and thought that they would serve everything in a big plate, you know those mix platter. We found ourselves seated on a round porkie buffet. Everything we ordered came in individual plate and with the amount of food on the table just to feed 4 persons, people around us looked at us as though we starved for days. So, #fuckdiet.
Served like your average Kway Teow soup but the gravy is from the braised pork broth. The gravy tasted EXACTLY the same as Kuching’s Kueh Chap!! Basically, you either order the Kway Teow Kia or rice or porridge (saw some tables having those rice) to go with the braised porkies and some other dishes.
Everything above are just so delicious. Soft and tender, flavourful and savoury.
There are 2 types of salted vegetable dishes to choose from and we ordered both. I’m a fan of salted vegetable and these are simply amazing! The first salted vegetable is just so-so, nothing to shout about but the later one.. The stewed salted vegetable is orgasmic!! Spicy, sour and salty altogether! By far, the best and yummiest salted vegetable stew I’ve ever had!
….we are such champions.
The total we paid was less than RM20 per person for everything we had. So so cheap with the amount of porkie stuffs we had! Definitely coming back here again whenever we step into JB!
