What pairs well with Jazz? Good food and fine wine of course!
Mediteca is having Jazz and Wine night on every last Thursday of the month. In the previous months, it has been Gypsy Jazz and Wine Swirl with Douche Manouche. Douche Manouche is a talented group of young jazz enthusiasts whose mission is to infuse the spirit of gypsy jazz to Malaysia. Enjoy the sound of jazz during happy hour and wine promotion all night long.
This is my second visit to Mediteca (first was here) and the menu highlight this round were Fish, Fish, Fish, Wine and more Wine! Fish fish! I love fish a lot!
Freshly baked homemade bread to start off.
We started off with a glass of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore – refreshing and elegant.
It is said that Italian wines with the DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) sticker is a label of quality assurance for Italian food especially wine and cheese. It’s like the Italian version of SIRIM.
A sharing platter of Mediteca’s fine ham to nibble while we wait for our first entree.
Roasted beetroot, tomato cherry and fried bread marinate salad with deep fried silver fishes @ RM30
Chef shared with us earlier on how to get rid of the earthy taste out from beetroot while retaining the juice in beetroot. This is achieved by roasting beetroot with the skin on in a bed of salt! How ingenious!! I’m no fan of beetroot because of the earthy taste but I am now enjoying beetroot more than ever. The soft beetroot salad and crispy silver fishes were match made in heaven.
Tuna tartare ‘catalana’ style with olive’s dust and spicy drops @ RM32
This is the FISH! Beautifully plated like a piece of art is not only a feast to the eyes but also the palatte. Delicious Tuna tartare ‘catalana’ style served with slightly sauteed onions, olive’s dust and spicy drops. I love how the sweet and savoury with a hint of spice rolls in your mouth as the tuna melts in your mouth. Oh yes, take a sip of wine.
Milk and olive creamed cod fish, warm chick peas and rosemary oil @ RM16
I thought it was a bed of mashed potatoes, but it turns out to be smooth chick peas! Lovely mash to go with the cod fish.
Ca Rugate San Michele Soave Classico, 2013
Spaghetti with clams, arthichoke and prawns @ RM34
Ooohhh lala~! Like really lala spaghetti with chunky fish fish!
Squid ink risotto with broccoli and crispy cod chips @ RM32
Ermagaaaaaadddd! This is heavenly.
Pan seared cod medallion with eggplant and vegetables ‘caponata’ herbs saffron butter sauce @ RM68
Adalia Balt Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore, Veneto, Italy
Tuna loin tagliata crusted with aromatic salt, spicy hummus and fennel orange salad @ RM62
If red wine should go with red meat, we have “red meat” here to complete the meal. Lovely tuna loin cooked to medium rare, still with the inside pinkish raw.
Chocolate and passion fruit gateau @ RM14
Dinner ended by indulging the beautiful chocolate and passion fruit gateau – rich and creamy chocolate with a hint of fruity and citrusy end. This is the ultimate sweet ending one should have at every end of a meal.
Here’s a preview of Douche Manouche in action:
