Dim Sum for Dinner @ iCanton, The Gardens Mall
Two weekends ago, I went to Mid Valley for dinner with my friends. Initially, we wanted to have dinner at Din Tai Fung but the restaurant is forever packed and we had to wait for 20 minutes to be seated. So, the hungry piglets couldn’t wait for that long, so we head over to Canton-i. Canton-i is a renowned Chinese food chain in Klang Valley owned by Dragon-I.
The restaurant is pretty packed as well but we got seated as soon as we arrived. I wanted to try their hot and spicy dumplings but they ran out already. So fast! *sad* Then, we wanted to order their signature dish, Egg Tart. They ran out of that too. *dismayed*
So, we end up ordering whatever they have in the kitchen…
A very quick served up starter
Has a very nice and crispy yet soft crust and the filling is just at the right sweetness level. Not too sweet yet not too bland.
From steamers, we ordered the few buns they still have left. One of them is this Liu Sha Bao (Steamed Egg Yold Layer Cake). No idea why they have it in purple color whereas I normally seen them in yellow or light orange colored buns. LOL
Was keeping my fingers crossed when I made this order of Steamed Mr. Piggy Buns and praying hard that they still have some more in the kitchen. Thankfully, we managed to have a basket of it
The buns are so very cute! Almost not willing to eat it, but ended up skinning the bun off while keeping the pig face intact. Nyek nyek nyek…
Sigh.. The bun is good to look at only, but it’s actually very dry and the bun is sorta hard to eat. T______T
Everyone’s favourite is this Pan Fried Radish Cake but that night it was pretty disappointing as it was so salty! *screams with hair loss*
The must have in any Dim Sum restaurants is the Chee Cheung Fun. We ordered two types of prawns and char siew. Both came hot and fresh. They’re pretty good.
The pork ribs were so-so only. Not very tender though. =/
This is the one we love but couldn’t eat much because it was supremely salty and supposedly best to be eaten with white steamed rice. Heh.. Furthermore, this was served to the table last! If they served it earlier, we could have ordered a bowl or two rice to go with it. Mehh..
Overall, dinner here was not bad, despite that the saltiness level is very high to my liking. Anyway, taste is very subjective and each individuals has their own taste and perhaps others would find the food here not salty enough? Hahaha.. Just saying.
