Every Sunday morning, we have our breakfast at either A One – B Two Coffeeshops, BDC or 668 Coffeeshop, Tabuan Jaya. These two coffeeshops serve one of our favourite breakfast, Dian Bian Hu. The Dian Bian Hu stall in 668 Coffeeshop serves the best (so far), meanwhile the one in B Two is operated by the daughter-in-law. The taste of both places are not much different, but I prefer the one at 668 coffeeshops. But most of the time, we go to A One – B Two because there are more choices of food for those who don’t fancy Dian Bian Hu.

One of the weekly most visited Coffeeshops
Dian Bian Ngu (spoken in Foochow) and Pling Plang Hu (as pronounced by my baby cousin) is a Foochow delicacy. In Foochow, “Dian” means Wok; “Bian” means Side; and “Ngu” means Paste.

Dian Bian Ngu @ RM4.00
The rice flour mixed with water and perhaps some other ingredients to form the rice paste. This rice paste is cooked at the side of the wok. Once it is “cooked”, it is scrapped down into the wok and cooked with the soup.
The soup is basically pork broth and some stalls cooked the soup with pork and squid broth for that extra taste. Ooomphness!

Yummy Dian Bian Ngu
Dian Bian Ngu is served in a clear and tasty soup with the soft rice cake, accompanied with handmade fishballs, meatballs, black fungus, some dried yellow flower thingy, squid and topped with some fresh local parsley.
Light soya sauce, pepper and Chinese red wine are added at own taste. I like mine with lotsa pepper and red wine.
So far, I only know few places which sells Dian Bian Hu; B Two, BDC, 668, Tabuan Jaya and Expert, RH Plaza. Any ideas wherelse has it?

Oh I miss this one so much! I love it – there’s a stall in Sibu which is very dirty (rats running around) but serves the best stuff in town! Best eaten with lots of Sarawak pepper.
