Brook's European Blend

Received this Japanese coffee sample from Brook’s. Love the aroma. Just like the fresh coffee beans roasted as I opened the satchet. However, the taste is just so-so. Still not bad for a morning coffee.

Lou Po Peng from Hong Kong

Got this from Hikaru last night. He just got back from Hong Kong awhile back. The wife biscuit (Lou Po Peng) is really different from what I had the last round I was in Hong Kong. Nonetheless, this is yummy and not too sweet.

Carvery Restaurant (previously located in Pending) is now located in Abell Hotel on Abell Road. This restaurant is every Carnivorian/Meat Lovers dining place! They serve approximately 16 types of MEAT (white & red meats including seafood)!

Not sure what to expect? Here’s my review on Carvery Restaurant when they were still in Pending. Then, they moved to Abell Hotel which is right in the Cat City! Been there few times during my holidays back in Kuching. Although the venue has changed, but the varieties of MEAT is still the same Normally, I’ll skip most of the meat servings (chicken wings, sausages, ham & turket, etc) to save up the tummy storage for just Sirloin and a few slices of lamb. Yums!

Two years ago, we went to the Orchid Garden Coffee House for the Mother’s Day buffet dinner. You can read about it here. We paid for ourselves while my Mama eat for free. One of the reason why we chose this venue is for that particular reason. LOL! Sorry, Ma. Now you know.

But, we don’t look at it that way. 2 accountants to be (me and bro), did some smart calculations. Instead of paying RM79++ per person, we paid RM68.14 each (in average of 4 persons).

Tarlogie Springs

Apart from the tools used to produce the perfect single malt scotch whisky, the superiority ingredients also plays a big role in producing the perfect quality of scotch whisky. Glenmorangie uses the local spring water from its own Tarlogie spring and locally grown Scottish barley, combined with the skill of the craftsmen who follow the same, time honoured approach that the company has used throughout its long history, result in a smooth spirit of distinction.

According to Dr Bill Lumsden, there are several ways to enjoy Glenmorangie:

Neat

- To try our whisky neat is to experience it in its purest form, where the complexity of the flavours and aromas is at its fullest intensity.

With Water

-A little water will soften the alcohol, causing a change in the texture and bouquet of the whisky, and revealing further layers of aromas and complexity.

I’ve been eating porridge in most of my meals. So much so, I even dream about eating porridge in my sleep! Since the day I got my braces on, I’ve been craving for Nandos for many many days (can only stare at the pichas but can’t eat ).

So, last weekend, Hik brought me to Sweet Bean, SS2 for this delicious Herbal Porridge for a change. He said that the porridge is one of the most delicious one he tasted, simply because he love herbal tasted food lah.

Sweet Bean serves various kinds of dessert and tong sui (soup based dessert), as well as other course meals (from rice to noodles, Western and Oriental cuisines).

They have set lunch from RM8.90, from 12noon to 3pm (from Set A to Set F).

Set A: A choice of Dry or Soup Wanton Mee, Steamed Chicken Mee, or BBQ Honey Chicken Mee.

Herbal Porridge

This is my first time having this Herbal Porridge. The closest thing I’ve eaten is Herbal Soup with rice in it. This is porridge in herbal soup (in a way).

The herbal porridge has various Chinese herbal ingredients (Tong Kai, goji berries and some herbal root stuff), mushroom and chicken.

I’m no fan of Herbal soup (especially those very strong black herbal soup). Although this porridge has strong Tong Kai taste, but the porridge tastes really good.

Now, I know where to get my healthy serving of porridge whenever I feel lazy to make my own

So, Ge and I went to B.I.G (Ben’s Independent Grocer) Ben’s, Publika for dinner. There’s their Food Store inside/beside the supermarket.

 For starter, we had roasted potatoes (RM12.90). Love the herbs on it! Especially yummy with lots and lots of Tabasco sauce dipping :3

For main, we shared the Mushroom lasagna and salad. Although we shared this, but we failed to finish it! The lasagna is so rich with cheese and the mushrooms are fabulous here!

Hardly eat the bread in the salad. Too much to eat! *LOL*

What’s birthday without the birthday cake. We also shared this slice of carrot cake. The best! The carrot cake is soft and moist.

We would normally go beyond our usual budget and normally drive out from our workplace to Restaurants or Cafe. For my Big Day, the Colleagues organised a Birthday Lunch at Monte’s Restaurant & Wine Bar, Bangsar Shopping Centre for me *touched*

Since we only have like an hour for lunch, so, it was quite a “Rush Hour” luncheon for everyone (which we ended going back 40 minutes late ).

The various reasons why we chose the venue are:

• Distance (1-2km from office); and
• good food and price.

Monte’s serve daily Executive Set Lunch from RM24.90++ onwards. There are 3 choices of Executive Set Lunch:

1.  Sirloin Steak with Onion Sauce (RM28.90)
2. Grilled Chicken Fillet with Garlic Cream Sauce (RM24.90)
3. Home-Made Chicken Burger with Foccacia Bread (RM24.90)

Each set lunch comes with soup, main course, dessert of the day and coffee or tea.

The chicken burger is served with green salad and fries. The burger itself is delicious! I didn’t eat the top bread as the portion of the chicken pattie and bottom bun is so fulfilling already

Vanilla Ice-Cream and Coffee

Opus Bistro is an exquisite Italian restaurant located in the quiet neighbourhood of Jalan Bangkung, Bangsar. Didn’t know there’s a row of fine restaurants in this neighbourhood until Hik brought me over for dinner.

This is a nice place for business meetings or just casual meals. They serve set lunches during the day and full course meals for lunch and dinner (from appetisers and starters, entrees to desserts).

The restaurant interior is cosy and it has a nice ambiance. I just love decorations on the wall and the seats. Fully cushioned seats by the wall.

Earl grey tea in a pot served with brown and white sugar cubes and sweetener.

Like any Italian restaurant, we were served with bread and vinaigrette (olive oil and balsamic vinegar). Simply dip the bread into the vinaigrette to start off. I didn’t take any because I was reserving my tummy space for some real food.

For starters, we had the Seafood Antipasti Platter (RM45) to share. The platter comes with grilled tiger prawns and rocket salad, fresh clams in white wine sauce, baked scallops, squid in arrabiata sauce, and 3 slices of baguette.

I love every single one of them! Everything was cooked with perfection! The prawns were still soft and fresh, the squids were not overcooked and still very soft and easy to chew, the clams in the O-M-G-yummy sauce and the scallops were absolutely delicious!

“the dish that made us famous“

Saw this in the menu and included it into our order because it has to be that good to have made the restaurant famous.

At the first glance, the spaghetti looks like any other restaurant’s seafood pasta, but behold! The spaghetti spiced with fresh herbs with fresh clam, mussel, prawns, squid and tomato is simply delicious. Fresh ingredients make delicious food.

For the second entree, we had the Angus Tenderloin (200g) @ RM62 which may be pricey for just a cut of cow named Angus, but comparing this with the other restaurants with similar pricing, this baby wins them all! This baby is served with veggies of carrots, asparagus, brocolli and potato wedges.

When making the order, the friendly waiter asked how well do we want the steak to be. In unison, we asked for Medium Rare. The outcome:

O-M-G-Y-U-SO-BLOODY-PERFECT?????

For the sauce, we chose the red wine and pink peppercorn. This is the best steak sauce I’ve ever tasted! Love the after taste from the pink peppercorn.

To date, this is the best steak ever tasted!

After pigging on all the food, I told Hik not to talk to me for a moment as I want to savour all the goodness in me. *Bliss*;)

However, still can talk on what dessert to nom. XD

We ordered Chocolate Desire because I believe that nothing can go wrong with chocolate The waiter told us that we need to wait for 20 minutes for the dessert to be prepared. So, we agreed to wait.

We talked and managed to catch up with each others ongoing since the last time we met each other…………..which was quite long time ago

Then, the waiter came back to our table after 30 minutes, empty handed, he apologised for the delay as the first batch was burnt and the chef has to redo the whole thing. Since we’re still full and we weren’t rushing to leave yet, so we didn’t make a fuss over it and just tell the waiter we’re okay to wait, and continued our conversations.

Then, the dessert came……………………………..with a candle and a Happy Birthday sign on it!!

 The Chocolate Desire @ RM19

The warm chocolate cake topped with fresh strawberries, served with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream is one havenly dessert!

When I sliced the chocolate cake, the filling poured out. Freshly baked melted chocolate cake! No wonder it took the Chef so long to make it. It was really orgasmic. Like I said, nothing can go wrong with chocolate!

P/S: The Chocolate Desire was on the house for Birthday Celebrations (or probably because they felt sorry we had to wait so long for it) Anyway,  Untung!!

Overall, Opus Bistro is a great place for great food with great hospitality. I would love to come back again to try out other items in the menu.

To date, this is the BEST deal I bought from MyDeal (I always spend my money on all these discounts/promotional deals online one).

I bought 2 of the deal. So, RM100 for 8 person to sing our lungs out for 3 hours and replenish our dry throats with 2 drinks each (total 16 drinks!) and 4 tidbits at any Red Box outlet! Fawesome deal!!

So, 2 Saturdays ago, invited a few friends from hometown who are currently living in PJ/KL……KL lah.. All the same =x Then, I came up with with an FB event with the above event. Just a simple gathering to enjoy the fawesome deal. Anyway, they’re suppose to entertain me

Made the booking and the day came..

We were given a spacious room for 7. There were sofa and coffee tables and even lounge table and stools.

While waiting for the rest to arrive, Cynthia went through the song lists and select several songs to start the evening.

Among our drinks (we were entitled to 16 glasses of drinks!). There were varieties of choices for drinks; from simple hot tea/coffee to soft drinks, to fresh made drinks and even fresh juice!

Topped up for the dinner buffet so everyone is energized to sing We were required to wear the wristband so that the crew knows that our package includes the buffet.

Salad

There were wide choices of salad. Many types of lettuce to choose from. Apart from that, there were many different salad dressings too. Quite a variety there. Impressed with the salad bar.

Sea Shells

I’m impressed that the RM15++ buffet comes with fresh oysters! Despite the economical buffet pricing, the quality of food is the same as well.

**Seafood stench so strong, I need so much lemon to numb my tastebud!

Sushi

Each person is entitled to 2-3 pieces of sushi at one serving. So, you have to like get the sushi, eat it and then return to grab some more.

**The raw tuna and other ingredients aren’t very fresh.

Soup

They serve 2 types of soup that evening; ABC chicken soup and creamy mushroom soup.

Overall, I find the food not that great. I still prefer the food at Neway considering the Karaoke + Buffet Dinner package.

Nonetheless, we enjoyed ourselves with all the singing and my deaf tone quacking that deaf everyone’s ears.

As we sing the night away, one of the crew came in with a cute cake! I did not expect a birthday cake, despite that this is a birthday party as I only requested them to sing me a birthday song :’) So very very touched and happy

They got me a Tiramisu and 6 candles which signify age: 24

Lately, the water level has increased and the wave has changed. The Rocks have grown bolder although at times, the rock would almost broke into pieces and kill everyone swimming in the stream! *sudden rage mode*

Perseverance and Persistence are the two things that keeps me holding up from breaking down.

Datin (the nickname for my mum) came over to KL almost every 2 months for company meetings. Every time she comes over, our routines are the same. We would meet up after my work, also after her meeting, then we would go to the nearest shopping mall for some shopping spree and then makan-makan (eating around).

On her last trip to KL last year, we went to Mid Valley Shopping Mall. After our shopping, we head over to the Gardens for dinner.

Chose to dine in Italiannies as I haven’t tried the food here yet (ya…..like after a year plus residing in KL ) Even Datin had it before

The Italian restaurant is packed when we entered. This must be the sign that the food must be good and I have no regrets walking in. XD

We were seated by the window which has a wonderful night view of Mid Valley city, minus the reflection.

On every table, there’s a bottle of olive oil, vinegar, salt and pepper.

After making our order, we were served with a plate of fresh bread. The waiter then pour some olive oil and vinegar on a plate. The bread was to be eaten with the Vinaigrette (mixture of olive oil and vinegar). Love it!

For starters, we shared a plate of Caesar Salad. The portion is quite big considering that we’re both sharing! <3

Love the salad. Love the generous cheese and crispy croutons in the salad.

For our mains, we shared the Lasagna a la Ravina. The lasagna is superb!

I highly recommend that this is a must have in Italiannies!

With layers of lasagna pasta, meat sauce and marinara with mozzarella cheese.

Simply the best! To date, I have not tasted any lasagna that is as good as this in KL!

It’s sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo yummmmmeeeeeehhhh!

And if you think that lasagne is the only thing that’s so good and delicious here, wait till you try the Tiramisu.

To complete our 3 course meal, we ordered Tiramisu for dessert.

The Tiramisu made of lady finger cookies dipped in liqueur and espresso coffee with layers of creamy mascarpone icing and topped with dark chocolate powder is to die for. Period.

As you savour the Tiramisu, flowers bloom out from your ears. This is definitely the MUST HAVE. I’ve labeled it.

I wish to have Italinnies Tiramisu for my birthday.

Some donkey years ago (in 2010), the trio from Kuching (namely Rose, Yien and I) flew all the way from Kuching to KL for our very first Standard Chartered KL Marathon. It was one memorable run! For a person like me to actually complete 10km run (that time) was a miraculous event :3

The next day after the run, we went to pig out at One Utama. After all the calories we have shred off from the run, we need to reimburse some back, more like, eating more than what we burnt.

Kelson brought us to Dave’s. He said that Dave’s served great pork knuckle and they serve beer too Without any hesitation, we walked in and grab our seats.

Just looking at the menu, we were already salivating.

The restaurant serves a great varieties of porkie. Hence, it’s strictly NON-HALAL.

To bad we arrived past 5pm, otherwise we would have been able to enjoy some price reductions on the pasta.

Dave’s has nice and cosy ambiance. A great place to pig out.

They even have TV showcasing the latest or even LIVE sports. So, you won’t miss a game when you’re out dining.

Hearing the word “beer”, one does not simply reject it. Afterall, there’s no absolute reason to reject it as we have been craving for an Ice Cold Cold Cold Beer at the end of our run the day before.

For starter, we ordered the Signature Mushroom Soup to share. The soup comes with a piece of garlic bread.

German Style Crispy Pork Knuckle @ RM54.00

Our most waited dish finally came! Just looking at the crispy pork knuckle was such a havenly sight!

The German style crispy pork knuckle was served with red cabbage salad, mashed potato, roast potates, potato salad, pickles and assortment of mustards.

So many sidelines to go with the crispy pork knuckle!
