As promised by JJ, he brought us to Chee Chiong Kai for the authentic LSS after our fulfilling lunches at Shin Kee and Lai Foong.

On our way, we saw this florist stall. There were lots of roses, so Yien and I stopped by and bought Rose a Rose (RM1.50 SO CHEAP!). Even though Rose said, “no need” or “nevermind”, but I think lah, she must be shouting with joy hoping for a bouquet of roses. Bahahahahahahhaa…

It is said that Lai Foong is well known for this noodle stall for its wonton mee. So, the Kuching trio (ahlost, yien and I) led by the 2 KL zai (JJ and Kelson) went for our second round of lunch here.

Just look at the glorious shiny char siew! The kolo mee is quite different from Kuching’s kolo mee as they add Soy Sauce. Plus, it’s very oily compared to our local kolo mee. Heehee.. The Char Siew Kolo Mee comes with a bowl of soup and 2 wonton in it. The noodles are Q~

The noodles is really tasty and flavourful! I don’t know what they put in it, all I can say it’s delicious. The chicken feet is superb!

Throughout my time in KL, I never get a saucer of spicy chillies. It’s green and sometimes red, but never spicy. T____T

Exactly 2 weeks ago, I joined Kelson, JJ and Shirley to Klang. We went in the morning, and so, we had Klang Bak Kut Teh for breakfast :3

JJ the audio GPS

Before heading to Klang, both JJ and Kelson did their homework the night before. They checked on blogs for the fehmes Klang BKT and map. *So amazed!* However, when we were in Klang, in looking for the fehmes Klang BKT shop, we lost track because we couldn’t spot the “Am Bank”. Then, we used my Nokia 5800 GPS to find our way. LOL.. Watching the duo from the passenger seat, Shirley and I couldn’t stop laughing.

Long story cut short, we found the place.

Restoran Fei Kay Bak Kut Teh

And to my amazement, it’s not a coffee shop, it’s a RESTAURANT (note the shop’s signboard). hahaha.. I am Miss Jakun in KL lah.

Varieties of Chinese tea leaves

On every table, there’s a tea set and a basket of varieties of Chinese tea leaves for you to choose from.

(Klang people drinks a lot of tea. And most of the time, they bring their own tea leaves.)

Pu Er Cha

We decided to have Pu Er Cha. It is believed to help cleanse fat and oil.

Since there were so many little cups, and also each cup is like a mouthful only, we had 2 cups each.

Green Chillies

I wonder if it’s just me or the chillies. Everywhere I go, there’s only green chillies, even if they have red ones, they are not spicy at all. T________T

Yew Char Kueh is a MUST for bak kut teh. It’s like coffee and creamer.

The bak kut teh is still boiling when it was placed on our table. Crispy lettuce covered most of the claypot.

There are lean meat porkie, fatty porkie, porkie parts and tofu skin inside the BKT.

chewy fatty porkie

One of the thing I like about Klang BKT is that the soup is very nice and you can ask for soup refill for FREE. Mehh.. If in Kuching, they will charge RM1-RM2 for soup refill. =_____=|||

Fei Kay Klang Dry Bak Kut Teh

I absolutely love this dry BKT. It’s very different from the wet BKT. The taste is very flavourful.

smelling good

The dry BKT is not BKT without soup. The cooking method is different. Instead of cooking the porkie with herbal soup, the dry BKT is porkie cooked with dried chillies, sotong (cuttlefish), and ladies finger.

porkie innards

The limited sauce from the dry BKT is a fight for. The sauce is very tasty and best to go with plain rice <3

Porkie texture

JJ said that Klang’s porkie’s texture and porkie from KL city is very different. This is because of the food these piggies are fed are different. Very enlightening. o.O!!

My favourite Kuching food is Sarawak Laksa and it’s my regular craving to have it at least once a week! Been living in Kuching for my whole life, so, can you imagine how I survived in KL for the pass who-knows-how-many weeks without laksa (even lost count already!)? It was miserable and nothing makes sense!

Good thing that Kelson knows where to get Sarawak Laksa. So, many weeks ago, I went food hunting with JJ, Kelson and Shirley. First, we went all the way to Klang for Bak Kut Teh for breakfast (will be in another post), then loiter around, then for lunch, we had SARAWAK LAKSA in Bangsar.

Kedai Makan Nam Chuan, Bangsar

This coffeeshop in Bangsar called Kedai Makan Nam Chuan is where the fehmes Aunt Christina’s Sarawak Laksa is located.

Here’s the location map:

Kedai Makan Nam Chuan location map

Here’s the link to the map.

When I walked into the coffeeshop, I didn’t smell any laksa aroma! Unlike in Kuching, when you walk into a coffeeshop with a laksa stall, that’s the first aroma you sniffed. T_____T

Aunt Christina's stall

Apart from Sarawak Laksa, Aunt Christina also sells rendang, black pepper chicken and pig stomach.

LSS @ RM1.40

As usual, I ordered LSS.

The coffeeshop was packed! We had to “Tap Toi” (share table with other patrons). The silly thing I did was, I ordered my laksa before knowing that we had a place to sit or not =x (So Kuching style) but luckily Shirley secured a spot for us.

Aunt Christina's Sarawak Laksa @ RM5

FINALLY! A familiar bowl of laksa in front of me!

prawns, taugeh, egg, chicken, chopped corriander leaves

T___________T I thought I’d cry eating the laksa. So dem touched to see it! Like so sakai (jakun) never see Sarawak Laksa before!

Happie ^__________^

My only question is how come Laksa here served in such a BIG bowl? with the content 1/3 in the bowl only =/

Localised sambal belacan

Even though I was excited to have my Sarawak Laksa, the sambal belacan was such a turn off. It doesn’t taste any close or near our Sarawak Laksa’s sambal belacan! T________T Guess it’s not easy to find prawn based belacan in KL, so Aunt Christina probably had to try other alternative products to replace belacan, such as dried chilli paste.

A whole big prawn

The prawns are very fresh and big. Even served with its skin and head! Kinda mafan (troublesome) for me, as I hate to peel prawn skin. meh..

half a prawn

I’m amazed with their culinary skills! How they managed to cut the prawn into halves, as you can see, the half prawn is so thinly halved!

Myanmar Laksa @ RM6

Shirley saw this Myanmar Laksa and ordered to try. Both Shirley and JJ shared it. The portion is really big! The Myanmar Laksa’s ingredients do look similar with Sarawak Laksa, just the soup based is different and also they used hor fun (thin kueh tiaw).

Aunt Christina's Sarawak Laksa

Now, back to Aunt Christina’s Sarawak Laksa. When I updated my Facebook status and Twitter, saying that I finally had my Sarawak Laksa. A lot of people asked the same questions:

Where is it?
Kedai Makanan Nan Chuan (Corner Shop)
2-4 Lorong Ara Kiri 2,
Lucky Garden, Bangsar,
Kuala Lumpur
(Map: refer above)

Business Hours
Open from morning till noon, 3pm++
Closed every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month.

How was it? Taste like Kuching’s?
Everyone is curious whether the Sarawak Laksa here tastes like our local Sarawak Laksa. Well, here goes..

The ingredients are similar. Bigger prawns though. However, the soup based is not as great as the ones we have back home. It’s more diluted :L There I’ve said it.

JJ said, “cant beat the one from home, but at least we tried to make you feel like home ”

T______________T So touched.

Thanks to Kelson, JJ and Shirley for accompanying me eat Sarawak Laksa.

You know, in Kuching, there are quite a number of Japanese Restaurants and there’s only one sushi franchise known as Sushi King. Compared to Sushi King, my favourite Japanese Restaurant is still Ten Ichi Japanese Restaurant.

Now that I’m in KL, I rarely see an authentic Japanese Restaurant! Most of the Japanese Restaurants here are either a branch or a franchise. Of the many famous Japanese Restaurants seen here are none other than Sushi King, Sakae Sushi and Sushi Zanmai (and of course there are more, but just to name a few).

Sakae Sushi @ The Curve

Anyway, I met up with Yomi and Vivian who have been in KL working for quite some time already. Wow.. It’s been ages since I last seen them. It’s like a mini reunion in KL, but in different style. We met up at IKEA and then continued shopping at The Curve. A very casual way to catch up with each other. Then, we went to Sakae Sushi for dinner.

Sakae Card - member card

Vivian signed up for the membership card, thinking that members are entitle to discounts when dining in Sakae Sushi. Unfortunately, only after she submitted the form, then she found out that under the small prints, it was written that this Sakae card is for members to accumulate $$ for future rebates. Duuuuuuuu…

2 days old member

And little did we know that she had dinner at Sakae Sushi, Subang and got her membership there. LOL! Then, she joined us dinner at Sakae Sushi again the next day!

Frog merchandise

Is frog a mascot in Sakae Sushi?

order via web-based interactive LCD screen

Apart from grabbing sushi from the kaiten belt, and deciding which items you like to order from the Menu, there is this web-based interactive LCD screen at each table by the kaiten belt. You browsed through the Menu and place your orders from here.

Browse & select

Browse & select

Place order & Confirm

Very cost effective for the restaurant. Plus, you can never get your orders wrong because you personally “CONFIRM” your order here. LOL

Sakae Sushi Ocha

You can also order your drinks from the LCD. However, once you are seated, the waiter/waitress will service you with the menu and get your drinks order. We ordered Ocha (green tea) and given 4 glasses and 4 green tea bags.

DIY hot water refill

At each table, there is this hot water tap for you to fill up your cup. However, the one problem we faced with the water tap is that;

the cup can’t sit straight up below the tap, so you had to tilt the cup.

when we were filling up the cups, the hot water tends to flow out of nowhere from the tap! :L

Wasabi & Shoyu

Comparing with Sushi King, handrolls here are slightly more expensive (like 90cents more) but more filled and more varieties!

Now, back to Shin Kee. It is well known for its original recipe and taste of beef noodles. It is very different from the Taiwanese beef noodles, and of course, different from our Kuching’s Ah Mui beef noodles (fehmes in Open Air).

LSS (Leung Shui Shuet) aka Liang Teh

The only drinks I first and know to order in any coffeeshops is none other than LSS (leung shui shuet) aka liang teh. LSS can be any cooling tea (something like “tea of the day”) such as chrysanthemum tea, sugarcane, herbal tea, air mata kucing and etc.

There’s this LSS stall in Midvalley’s lower ground floor, just outside Koong Woh Tong.

The name of the stall is so cute! MOU TAK DING! LOL!! Mou tak ding means Unbeatable in Cantonese. It’s actually, Petaling Street Air Mata Kucing – Mou Tak Ding! LOL.. meaning their air mata kucing is UNBEATABLE!

Unbeatable LSS @ RM2

And because it is so UNBEATABLE, it costs us RM2 for a fully ICED LSS in a small cup. :L

This RM2 should be unbeatable to other LSS then…But all I taste is a cup full of ice with sweet air mata kucing (like drinking black sugar syrup =X), and if you scoop all the ice out, it would be half cup of LSS or less. :L So, I guess they beat the rest based on Ice? teheehee.. Still Air Mata Kucing dari Kuching lagi Mou Tak Ding leh..

When JJ saw us buying the RM2 unbeatable LSS, he laughs and said that there are better LSS and cheaper ones………will bring us try one day. T_________T Say so lah..

Well, when you see the word cream, you probably think that, “Yea, they use durian flavourings for the taste.”

This prove you wrong!

Durian texture spotted!

Look at that creamy and thick yellow flesh of REAL durian! What makes the durian pancake is the yellow pancake wrapped around the cream and Durian like a “puff”. RM10 for 6 cold rich and creamy durian pancakes, I’d say it’s worth every cent. And in case I have sudden durian cravings, I know where the cure is :3

Vaaaaaaaaaaah!! So dem mish our durian pancake moments together!!! Every time I see Durian Pancakes, it just reminds me of us sharing a packet of durian pancakes together. T_____________T

During the weekend Rose and Yien were in KL, we went out food hunting a lot :3 Thanks to Kelson and JJ for bringing us around. It was also the day I first met JJ, Forrest, Rachel, and Shirley. Great peeps.

On the day we went to collect our race kit for the SCKLM 2010 at Stadium Titiwangsa, we went for afternoon tea firs at Happy Garden in Kuchai Lama. Apparently, the food stall is named after it’s location area, Taman Gembira (in Malay meaning Happy Garden) within the residential area here. This place is well known for its Tong Sui (sweet, warm soup dessert): ; and fried fritters of sweet potato, yam, popiah (spring roll), yew char kueh, ham chi peng (Cinnamon roll) and some other kueh.

Food station

This is where all the foods are lined up and customers gotta queue for it. Dem lotsa people from the neighbourhood and “tourists” like us queuing for food and places to sit.

Also, not forgetting JJ’s story about the uncle who scooped the mai fan (fried beehoon aka rice vermicelli). *LAMAO*

Food menu

I don’t read Chinese, but according to them, there’s something funny about the menu. You tell me

Tong Sui station

The Tong Sui are all in BIG POTS! There are like so many pots of Tong Sui there! So, can you imagine how many bowls of Tong Sui sold daily?

Tong Sui menu

Various Tong Sui available: Green Bean, Red Bean, Sweet Potato, Wheat, and black glutinous rice soup.

TRI-fritters: Sweet Potato, Nian Gao, Yam

Am not sure what they called it here, so I temporarily name it TRIO-fritters till I get the right name for it. LOL.. It’s a three layered combination of sweet potato, nian gao (sweet sticky cake) and yam, hence the TRIO (meaning three) fritters. The trios are coated with flour mixture and deep fried.

Really love this. It’s a sweet combo! Ideally eaten with Tong Sui.

something fritter

Am not very sure what you call this but it tasted like chai tao (white radish).

There were more kuih-muih but I didn’t take picha of them all *LOL* people eat faster than the snapper. =X If I’m not mistaken, each fry-up is 60cents.

Mai Fan and Curry

Yien ordered the Mai Fan with Curry to share. Yummy. And JJ told us a very funny yet geli story about the uncle scooping the mai fan. A good laugh with our Tong Sui.

Sweet Potato soup

For Tong Sui, I had the sweet potato soup. A truely refreshing and cooling tong sui.

Green Bean soup

Most of them had the green bean soup.

Each bowl of tong sui costs RM1.50. A very reasonably priced afternoon tea.

Really misses the great and fun time together when Rose and Yien were in KL. T________T Anyone coming up soon?

When shopping in Pavilion the whole afternoon, gotta let the legs, purse and calculator to rest. And also to feed the tummy and tastebud to something yummeh. We went to Snowflake for “tong shui” (sweet soup dessert in Cantonese), but in our case, it should be “Tong Shuet” (sweet snow in Cantonese).

Snowflake - Taiwanese Dessert Secrets

Snowflake is a Taiwanese dessert kiosk-like located at the first floor of Pavilion. Heard that it’s an expansion branch. The main Snowflake is located somewhere in SS15. Correct me if I’m wrong.

<UFO Beeper Picha>

When you pay for your order, you will be given this “UFO” beeper. When your desserts are ready, the beeper would light and beeps. Gotta return the beeper when collecting your Tong Shuet. Very cool and innovative way of Queue.

Snowflake Bestseller & Japan! combo

Snowflake desserts consist of flavoured snow ice with flavoured Taroballs (no idea what it is but tasted like Tang Yuan – glutinous rice ball) with sweet toppings. The serving is HUGE! I didn’t know that the portion would be so big and it is recommended for 2 pax sharing.

Memorable Series: Japan! Combo @ RM6.50

Hikaru made his decision pretty fast with Snowflake Memorable Series: Japan! Combo. It is very Japan with green bean taroballs and redbean toppings.

Green Tea Taroballs + Red beans

Tasted pretty awkward to me. The taroballs are gummy and chewy, whereas the redbeans are very soft. Thus, the combination in mouth felt funny………………………………………..to me.

Poser Hik.Lim

Enjoying his Tong Shuet while checking out the menu.

As for me, it took me quite a while to decide which Tong Shuet to order. There were so much to choose from the menu and I decided to try their Bestseller: Grass Jelly + Grass Jelly Ice + Taroballs + Creamer.

Taroballs on grass jelly

yummy Grass Jelly + Grass Jelly Ice + Taroballs

Thin layer of grass jelly on the grass jelly ice

The grass jelly ice is sweet and tasted very nice. So love love the grass jelly taste.

Creamer

Half way eating, then realised the existence of the creamer on the tray. LOL

Grass Jelly + Grass Jelly Ice + Taroballs + Creamer

The grass jelly dessert with creamer added on is so gooooooooooood! The combination may sounds weird but it tasted really good! Made the dessert creamier.

Camwhore jek

Teeheehee.. The fella standing behind me, must be still deciding which Tong Shuet to order kua..

*nom nom*

Snowflake could be my first and favourite Tong Shuet station. <3

My second day in KL, Hikaru brought me out for lunch at Jojo Little Kitchen in Kuchai Lama. Jojo Little Kitchen is well known for its Pan Mee. Pan Mee is a type of Hokkien-style noodle made of flour and egg. The name Pan Mee literally means flat flour noodle.

Jojo Little Kitchen location map

Jojo Little Kitchen is located somewhere in Kuchai Lama, Jalan Kuchai Maju 9, Off Jalan Kuchai Lama. This is the direct link of the map *click me* so you can sorta surf around to get a clearer picha of the location and how to get there.

So far, there are two places I’ve visited which sells Pan Mee at Yam Seak coffeeshop (next to Fock Hai coffeeshop), Padungan and Fat Cat Cafe.

Pan Mee @ Fat Cat Cafe, Stutong area

Both their Pan Mee is similar. The type of Pan Mee they sell there is soup pan mee served with nuts, seaweed and fish balls and meat. So, when Hikaru said Pan Mee for lunch, I just sat in the passenger seat imagining the same if not similar type of Pan Mee I had back in Kuching.

Ice Lemon Tea & Honey Green Tea

The drinks are served in tall glasses. The honey green tea is however not as nice as the one I had at Xi Men Ting.

Latt Jiu Pan Mee @ RM5.50

Jojo Little Kitchen is fehmes for its Latt Jiu Pan Mee (Chilli Pan Mee). Since I love spicy food, I ordered the pan mee as recommended by Hikaru. The chilli pan mee is served with sunny side up egg, minced meat, and crispy ikan bilis (anchovies).

Minced Meat

Sunny Side Up

Love this type of egg. Apparently, I was told to break the egg yolk and then mix the Pan Mee with it. When I mix the flat floor noodle with the creamy egg yolk, the whole bowl became sticky!

Spiceh homemade chilli

Each bowl of Latt Jiu Pan Mee is accompanied with a spoon of homemade chilli condiment. Hikaru said that I can add more of the chilli according to my own taste preference of hotness and spiciness. He took the condiments container and started SCOOPING spoons over spoons of chilli condiment into my Pan Mee. Heh..

When you mix the chilli into the pan mee, it immediately changed and looked like Malak Mien (Spicy noodle).

Tastewise: SPICEH to own desire and noodle is Q~ Lovely Pan Mee!

Chicken Herbal Soup Pan Mee @ RM7.00

Hikaru ordered the Chicken Herbal Soup Pan Mee, another well known dish in Jojo Little Kitchen. It is soup based Pan Mee served in chicken herbal soup.

The soup tasted sweet and looks healthy (clean and not oily). You can also add in the chilli condiment at your own taste preference to spice up your meal.

It sure is an eye opening lunch as the Pan Mee here is very very very different from Kuching’s. Gotta say this, Kuching is known for its food, but KL is like the HUB of food! Food from different culture and cuisines!

The day I arrived KL, I went shopping at Carrefour (nearest store) for provisional stuff. There were so much to shop that I forgotten that it’s not like in Kuching whereby the car is parked in the parking lot! Imagine carrying bags of stuff waiting at the taxi stand. T_______T

Anyway, before going home, I went to this Taiwanese restaurant/cafe called d’Chef Xi-Men-Ting in Carrefour building itself.

d'chef Xi-Men-Ting

Iced Honey Green Tea

Very nice the drink. Didn’t know that Honey and Green Tea makes a really refreshing combination!

Spicy Slimmering Spicy Beef Noodles

The beef noodles here can buy 2 bowls of beef noodles in Kuching. But heck, this is KL ma. LOL

The noodle is handmade and the beef is very tender. The soup is hot and spicy! I like! Normally in Kuching, when they say spicy beef noodles, it’s always just pepperish type of hotness, but this spicy slimmering beef noodles my friend, is SPICEH!

Gladys, Yien and I have been planning to bring our lovely Lostling for dinner and present her belated-birthday gift. However, it took us quite some time to do so as time and availability of each party was kinda hard to sync. And finally, we managed to gather together for dinner at Mr. Ho’s Fine Food.

Wineful dinner

I brought a bottle of wine from home. It was a birthday gift from Gordon and Eva. Hehehee..

Breathe Wine Breathe

It costs RM15 only for corkage fee in Mr. Ho’s Fine Food. Affordable corkage fee. Everyone drank wine that night. heeheehee..

I'm adult enough to drink

Well, I’m not so kid to drink. I’m not too old to drink either. I’m just adult enough to drink. Hehe

Mr. Ho's Caesar Salad @ RM19.90

For appetizer, we had Caesar Salad. I still prefer their Garden Salad which contains varieties of lettuces and other gardenish ingredients with its vinaigrette dressing.

Mussels in Chilli Cream Sauce @ RM15.90

We had Mussels in Chilli Cream sauce and Lamb Satay while waiting for our main course.

Lamb Satay @ Rm2.50 each

The lamb satay comes in half a dozen of six sticks.

Rose and I had Spaghetti Aglio Olio. The Aglio Olio is the tastiest Aglio Olio in Kuching for me, so far.

Mr. Ho's Signature Prawn Pasta @ RM19.90

Mr. Ho’s Signature Prawn Pasta is the best spaghetti in Kuching, for me so far. :3

Yien had a whole quarter of chicken on her plate. She couldn’t finish the everything. Big portion you know.

That night, the waitress recommended their dish of the night, Wargyu Beef. But little did we know that it would cost us RM150.00 for it. T_______T

Cheers

Who cares how much the dinner cost us. What matters most is that we’re satisfied and enjoyed our meal together and nice wine to cheers throughout dinner.

Rose and her supreme-belated-birthday gift

And presenting Rose, our supreme-belated-birthday gift, we hope you like it. Time passes, but memories remain.
