Many thanks to by Hazel – founder of Absolutely Dress, for inviting me to join her fashion show themed “Shanghai Red“.
Before proceeding, please note the followings:
- Don’t expect someone who hunts and blogs food to have a figure of a SuperModel like those Victoria Secret model lah..
- I don’t catwalk like Miu Miu. I catwalk comelly.
Anyway, I just want to story the story of the behind the scene of the fashion show – Shanghai Red.
Some behind of the scene of the Shanghai Girls
Before the day of the show, we had a week of practice on the choreographed steps on the runway outside Absolutely Dress, at the balcony.
January 17th, 2009, 2.30pm – Models to meet at Ray’s Salon for hairdo.

After the hair do, we had to rush to the venue, Green Heights Mall, for our make up. The Felicia make up artists were to meet the models in the changing room.

While I was getting my make up done, my tummy was grumbling begging for food. I gave Hazel puppy-eyes-look and said, “Grok grok” to her. She went to the supermarket and got us some food. Yataaa!

Some of the models did their make up themselves – partially. Some even touch up thei make up after the make up artists left the changing room. The make up artist had an idea of “Shanghainess”, and “paint” me into this:

Look like Shanghai Female Ghost. Don’t get nightmare orh~~
Seriously man.. I looked like I got boxed on both side of my cheeks. T.T
I went around asking the other girls how scary I looked like, they just laugh. -_______- ||| So, I went S.O.S ask another make up artist to “color” my face a bit. Redder blusher, heavier eye shadows and redder lips color.

This is after the touch-up. Less hantu looking and more alive. Of course the make up is very heavy, wait till you see the spot light at the runway. So the bright and yellow!
Many people asked me about the changing room. Like how we change, where we change, what is in there, how long it took us to change, etc etc..

The changing room is a unit of shop in the shopping mall. It is just behind the runway’s backdrop. It is that big, we can jump up and down, roll left and right, dance here and there while waiting for our turns. As for the changing of dresses, we had this curtain spread across half of the room. Change openly. No male were in the room throughout the whole show. The changing time is AS FAST AS YOU CAN. You have to change into the next dress ASAP. Don’t even have a second to peep at other girls.
At the runway, you see graceful walking models (minus me), behind that, you get a whole bunch of people rushing rushing and rushing to get ready for the next round. The turn over time must be maintained or shortened to ensure that there’s no delay for the next round. It was pure rush hour!
k laaa.. I shall stop blabbering about the “behind the scene”. Check out our first round dresses:

Overall, I had fun during the show. I met few familiar faces (modeling buddies from 2007′s hairshow) – Siti and Virginia. I made new friends – Cecelia, Eileen, Kai Ching, Ling, Maria, Nieja, Sue, and Raula. I get FREE DRESS. My comel face in the newspaperS. I had a memorable experience. I get to wear those beautiful dresses before anyone else. kekeke..
